This is probably my age showing through, but it's weird to me that we have a YouTube overview show about YouTube overviewers. Who reviews the reviewers?

Honestly I've never liked Spoony as he always came across as a whiny and egoistical manchild.

The tipping point for me with Spoony from, "Guy seems like a dick but I can still laugh at his stuff," to, "F*** off, I don't want to watch him anymore," was something he tweeted after a church shooting using it as an attack on religion. He can do him on opinions on that whole subject, but using people who were murdered to do it is just monstrous.

Honestly I've never liked Spoony as he always came across as a whiny and egoistical manchild. Noah loves playing the character of a know-it-all big-talking tough guy online but he really can't handle criticism of any kind. "Man-Child" is the perfect description of him. I can tell by his attitude and behavior that he hasn't had a lot of Real World experience with people. He behaves like a Middle Schooler with a bad attitude. He seems like the kind of kid who was either spoiled a lot or over-praised by his parents and told he could do no wrong. And no, I'm not going to let him use his mental health problems as an excuse for his terrible behavior and comments. There are plenty of people with the same or worse problems than him who are perfectly able to be respectable, civll people in society (oh and they can hold down a job, too). He sure does like to pull out the "But I have issues" card a lot. When Channel Awesome are looking like the reasonable ones, you know you have serious issues dealing with people.

I've never watched Spoony's FF8 thing, and going by the clip they showed, I sure missed nothing. "lol Squall's gay, gay gay, buttsex. Lube." Why did people rave over this, again? Which is bewildering to me. Squall's design is badass as hell. I have honestly no clue where Noah was picking up queer vibes from it, and even if I could, that's not something worth mocking. No idea if Spoony himself is homophobic or not, but that intro was enough for me to decide "yeah, no thanks, this ain't for me."

This makes me wonder, do you think he was lying his ass off when he said he was seeking help from a professional? Because it sure doesnt seem like he was getting help.

For what it's worth I've never actually watched his FF8 review but the FF10 one starts with him saying he regrets those jokes.

FWIW he did later state he was super embarrassed about the homophobic tone of his early stuff. doesn't make up for it but he was aware of it at least.

Mental health treatment is a marathon, not a sprint. After my ex-fiancé finally got diagnosed as bi-polar and started getting treatment for it she would still occasionally say and do really stupid things that no mentally healthy person would think is a good idea. Plus she would occasionally come to me and say she stopped seeing her Doctor because she's all better and doesn't need her anymore. And if Spoony's income was dwindling and he was having trouble paying the bills, I would think regular psychiatric treatments would be one of the first things he'd drop.

As someone who's dealt with mental health issues throughout his life [Asperger's and bouts with depression], he doesn't get a pass for me, either. At some point, he has to realize that his problems are his. It'll suck, there's a chance that it'll hurt him more [it happened to me for a few months, but it eventually was the catalyst that made me start attending college], but it helps in the long run once you realize that you're not as helpless as you might believe yourself to be. I've held a job since 2004 and I'm finishing up my bachelors degree next month. My life hasn't exactly gone as I had hoped, but that's life, it's not always fair and its not always gonna go your way.

It's not bad, but the gay jokes and the whole "Emo Git" Squall stuff gets tired quick. If you really want an FF8 retrospective, I'd suggest Kim Justice's review. These are far more detailed in deconstructing what's good and bad about FF8 (she also did one for FF7 as well)

Since sure, FF8 is a flawed game, but it's still one of my favorites, so I probably wouldn't really get much out of a nonstop beatdown of it.

Nah, while Kim doesn't come out of the game with a positive outlook, she doesn't really shit on the game. She doesn't go into it as a pessimist and does give her positives. She doesn't even really drag on the negatives as much (though she does have real problems with Irvine in particular). Spoony's is far more focused on negativity and trying to throw a joke in every few seconds, with a lot of them being lunkers.

I know they mentioned until he was 27 in the video which was when he started the videos. Not sure how long after the video money started rolling in before he bought his own place.

How long was Spoony living at home? Until he was around 25 (give or take) and then he moved into a place with his brother. I don't think he moved into his own place until his early 30's (a few years ago). I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up moving back home if his income keeps dwindling (and there's nothing wrong with that- it would be the financially smart thing to do).

Not to defend Spoony, but I do recall he apologized for the Squall gay comments in a later video.
As as aside, I'll never get how you can make money playing games and watching movies and still figure out a way to f*** it up.

Noah has a massive ego, and would rather alienate his fanbase instead of creating content. Plus he pretty obviously had no "Plan B" if this whole "reviewing things on the internet" bubble burst.

As someone who's dealt and deals and will always deal with mental health issues, I can say that this line of thinking is not "fits all sizes" when it comes to those dealing with mental illness, especially those as serious as Antwiler's appear to be. In fact, it's the exact opposite of how it should be handled.
