1995. When grunge broke out in 92, you still had metal acts hanging on. In fact, it was mostly the hair bands that went away, so things were cool. But 95 hit, and metal got completely buried. It was all just generic alternative rock bands. Not even at least Nirvana or Soundgarden since those bands were no more.
Probably my bias because I went into middle school around that time, and wanted to listen to a lot of metal. And everyone around me was listening to Alanis Morisette and Smashing Pumpkins.

You had the stupid talkie fad,the great Crooner Jebediah Van Buren retired, and you just had the strange feeling money would stop growing on trees

The early to mid 2000s were rough to get through in general. But 2004 through 2007 were a real f***ing slog, in my opinion.

I wasn't too impressed with a lot of 2006-2007. Nothing too terrible but not a whole lot that stands out either. ROH, TNA and CZW were at their peak around that time.

For me has to be one of the years in the late 70s. Need to look and see what all shows were airing and what movies hit cinema in 78 and 79. But the pop music from those 2 years was horrid. I'm leaning towards those years as well. 1979 is probably my "winner".

Meanwhile I was born in 1986 which is a universally loved year for pop culture. We had The Golden Child!

2002-2005 because everyone was walking on egg shells due to 9/11 fallout and Wars. Was just a terrible time in all of entertainment.

1929 was pretty bad year You had the stupid talkie fad,the great Crooner Jebediah Van Buren retired, and you just had the strange feeling money would stop growing on trees "And its also the time the greatest show on Earth finally fell off the trolley. Why it used to be you could go down to your local performance house, pay the little mazuma possible see not only the finest hotsy totsy's this side of the Mississippi, but also get a performance that was the bees knees (and that was without a healthy dose of the giggle water). It was a bonified sockdollager that not even the biggest bluenose could bring down. Course nowadays the rubes are all about the petting pantries, too busy with their hayburners and their fancy gaspers to enjoy a fine bit of the old vaudeville anymore. Not even being the best Oliver Twist in town gets you more half a simoleon, I tell ya its the sort national tragedy that fancy boy Fitzgerald should be telling tales about."

The end of 2014 to now has been just shit for pop culture. There has been good movies but everything is so overly sensitive and pc it has made for watered down verything. And cry baby everything else.

I remember 1996 as being really dull and boring, especially in music.

2004-2009 honestly just feels like a big ass blur with a couple note-worthy movies and songs.
The 80's, 90's and 2010+ stands out on their own for various reasons, but there's a lost decade in there that just kinda blends into everything else.

95? Only good movies were Toy Story and Seven, only good video game I can think of was Chrono Trigger, and the less said about wrestling that year the better.

Honestly I stopped caring about pop culture when I reached my 30s.

2018 is now officially in the books. Anyone think it’s up for discussion?
I’m still thinking one of the years in the early 2000s has it beat by a considerable stretch.

Surprised to see 1995 on here. Not as great as 1993-94, but I'd hardly call it the worst. As far as the worst to me, hell I dunno. Pick any year over the past decade. It's a blur of crap.

Also, who thought 2004 was a bad year? Movie-wise you had Spider-Man 2, The Incredibles, Anchorman, Freddy vs Jason, heck, even Shrek 2 was enjoyable, while in wrestling you had a whole run of good WWE ppvs (only truly bad one was Bash 2004) and TNA was starting to get really good (at least, at the time). Cant think of much memorable music, but American Idiot was a good album. I think Jennifer Saunders' performance inshrek 2 is one of the greatest family animated films of all time. Fixed. Also 2004 in WWE had the moment all the smarks wanted, even if it wouldn't hold up in a couple of years.

I'd probably be like a few of you and place it somewhere in the early 2000s. Too much reality TV, nothing on networks really grabbed me anymore, wasn't actively watching wrestling, era of teenage/young adult models posing as singers, more niche cable channels' original formats were dying out... And, well, REAL reality TV put a damper on things as things like 9/11 happening made me just not care about pop culture. Then the aftermath in the years to follow, for reasons I really can't mention here, made following celebrity culture downright annoying. It's happening again too.

Maybe I'm nostalgic as this was when I graduated, started college, found the Internet. But yeah. '95 had the start of the Monday Night Wars (though it would still take a while for it to really get warmed up), I discovered ECW, anime through the DiC version of Sailor Moon, still some good stuff on Fox Kids though the rest of SatAM was dying out...
