I’m just glad Nakamura finally listened to Sublime Master Yano’s advice and hit him right in the jimmy when he isn’t expecting it.

I think people are being a little hard on the match. They might be missing the larger story of the match. Neither guy could go balls to the wall. They knew each other too well for that. Going for broke leads to mistakes and with either guy, one mistake can be the end. Nakamura made that mistake by taking too long setting up the Kinshasa. It allowed AJ to counter it into the Styles Clash, which has become something of a kill shot finish for him. Adding to that, AJ set that up throughout the match by working over Nakamura's leg. This made him a tad slower when getting up to speed to hit the knee buying AJ a little extra time to counter. It was very similar to the story told for the Asuka/Charlotte match where they were trying to be the first to lock in their signature submissions. This was Nakamura's 3rd attempt at winning the title. He lost to Jinder sure, but he was a victim of outside interference. This was straight up and Nakamura was sure he was in AJ's head and he got caught instead and he was pissed. AJ and Nakamura actually told a really good story.
Physically they also couldn't go the way they had years ago. AJ's got back issues, Nakamura has more miles on his body. Honestly, there's little they could have done to live up to or top the expectations fans had for it. Instead they told a good story and I appreciate that more.

You can tell the crowd was waiting to be wowed and it just never hit that high octane finishing gear to bring it to that next step which hurt the match It fell way short of a classic but it was a good match that just didn't hit that wow factor we expected. I do think they held back a bit due to this being an angle as i've said before but that's really not an excuse to have for Mania

I thought the match was okay but missing something, there was no real juice to the match other than "Remember that match they had that was awesome but you probably didn't see". When Nakamura grabbed the belt I was hoping for something more than we got with Asuka losing and I'm glad we did. Since coming to the main roster is felt like Nakamura had been holding back for some reason, stuff has been okay but lacking, I think this will bring it out, or at least I hope so.

I think this will bring that extra edge out of him too He can't coast as a babyface anymore and his already aggressive style will get a bigger kick He now really has to be a character instead of a nickname and coasting on his fame

Nakamura was always massively entertaini g as the aloof prick who could just beat the shit out of you when he wanted to. I'm excited for this.

Watching this match back a second time, I like it a lot more. It seems more deliberate rather than stilted. I still expected much better.
I am well on board with Nakamura being a heel now, though. The more I think about it, the more I realise his entire gimmick makes so much more sense as a heel than as a face.

Which was always the point in NJPW when he crowned himself King of Strong Style and said he will bring it back until he got to popular to be a heel Same with Okada and his Rainmaker gimmick being a cocky and flamboyant character

Yeah, Gedo's the booker and Okada's his boy, but unless Okada's going to act like an out and out greedy shit more often than not, it just looks weird having Gedo next to him.

Hoping this moves their feud up a level. The match was a very good match, but there wasn’t a great story leading up to it & the crowd was dead. Nakamura can get plenty of heat & AJ is great in the role of pissed off babyface.

On one hand I actually give Gedo credit for being bold as f*** and saying this is my guy However, Okada as champion has become stale and he's beating people for the 3rd or 4th time. He's earned the right for wait and see booking but right now i'm really hoping he losses to Tanahashi in an attempt to break his record Tanahashi can still go but his body is failing him and this would obviously be a transitional reign to more than likely Naito who i'm liking the shit between him and Suzuki but it's a step down from where he should be at
