I watch WWE on and off, not really following it super closely, but I’ve always noticed that Seth Rollins, while good, never seemed like a massive deal in terms of crowd reactions (I know he is super talented in the ring, but we're talking popularity here). He had his moments like cashing in on WrestleMania, and he was a decent heel, but I always felt like he was one step away from being the main-event star WWE clearly wanted him to be.
Now I return to raw to see the crowd going ballistics every time his music hits, and chanting things like "Let's go Rollins" and "This is awesome" during his matches. Can someone explain to me exactly what Seth did to suddenly get this massive reaction? And when did it start happening? Aside from being face, I don’t see what’s so different about him.

Before Elimination Chamber they had a gauntlet match on Raw. Seth Rollins wrestled for an hour in it. Also, they added this BURN IT DOWN! introduction to his music a while ago that's become an easy to chant catchphrase, a thing that the crowd can yell along to at the start, fits his character and looks cool on a t-shirt.
That and he's just putting on great matches.
Edit: Also, he's the one babyface in the company who actually did something heroic in admitting to his friends he was a bad person and fighting the physical manifestation of his past heelish ways in Triple H. I think that's an underrated huge part of his recovery as a babyface, being an actual HERO instead of just being a guy who fights the heels.

I don't get it either. He's as boring as Reigns.

He has the best endurance to just do a match at 100% I've seen since Eddie Guerrero. But I think he's boring as hell.
My 11 year old cousin thinks he's the greatest thing ever though.

I would compare it to Bryan in a way. There's nothing as big as the 'Yes' chant for Seth, but the company is pushing him as a pure performer. Now the crowds are settling in for his matches, which are speaking for themselves. He's been killing it every time out, and has really been the highlight of RAW since before Mania. Guy had the best (or 2nd best) match on that show, and the best match at Backlash.

Best redemption story they've pulled off in years. When a story is good, people get behind it.
See the Daniel Bryan weak link of Team Hell No story leading into the No DQ Match with Orton.

They almost ruined him but I think the angle where he was sincerely apologetic to Ambrose and had to earn his and the fans trust back was the launching pad. Then he got his cool finisher back. Outside of that I think fans always wanted to cheer him but now they have a reason to.
But why he got the legend Montreal pop, I don’t know.

He also got to pin Roman and John Cena in said Gauntlet match, it was quite the rub besides the high level he's been performing at of late.

He's had character development. He's shown real weakness, regret, hate, desire.
He's like us. Flawed. Humans relate to other humans.
He's not perfect like some random douchebag that whines he's getting screwed while being handed opportunity on a silver platter day in and day out. It's hard for humans to care about some spoiled brat that's crying to his mom about not getting what he wants. Normal people just want somebody like that to shut up.

He isn't Roman Reigns and the Dean Ambrose pop had to go somebody the people like?
(That kinda seems like I'm belittling him. It's not meant to at all.)

It's a combination of things starting with last year.
- Ambrose reunion. Rollins admitted he was sorry for breaking up the Shield and betraying Ambrose, that was a big thing towards his character as before that no one could reasonably be all in with him. That was a barrier. - Shield reunion. Gave us that old school Rollins we missed. - Curb Stomp returned. - "Burn It Down" being added to his entrance helped people be into his entrance more which is a plus. - Gauntlet match. Rollins not only wrestled for over an hour but he beat both Cena and Reigns clean. This helped show how great Rollins truly was. - WM triple threat. Arguably the best match at WM that Rollins won the IC title in and became a Grand Slam Champion.
Since then he's been killing it in the ring.
Basically he's returned to his friend loving, great wrestling and championship winning self he was back when people loved him. That's why he's over regardless of what's been handed to him.

Because he’s not getting a monster push. His run seems to have gotten him over naturally.

He is the iron man of WWE. Hard not to love that. WWE have signed a wrestler, a mighty wrestler, his name is Joe Coffey. So while Rollins may be great, there is only one Iron Man in WWE.
