Recently I've been on one of my Billy Joel kicks where I just feel the need to listen to his music. So I thought I would ask what everyone else here thinks of him. I guess the general consensus would be he's one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.
Here's my favorite song of his.

Love me some Billy Joel. This is my personal fave of his, and despite a minor line flub, probably my favorite live performance of this song.

I recently got his greatest hits album and I love it. That's one of the best hits compilations out there (the "Volume I and Volume II set).

"Honesty" is probably my all time favorite Billy Joel song. Come to think of it, 52nd Street was a great album all around. Not a huge fan, but Billy Joel has made some great music.

One of the "Hidden Gems" Billy Joel albums; a live album made up almost entirely of B Side/Early songs, but it's great from the first song to the last.
Song List
1. Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway) 0:00 2. Summer, Highland Falls 5:03 3. Streetlife Serenader 8:06 4. Los Angelenos 13:19 5. She's Got a Way 17:05 6. Everybody Loves You Now 20:04 7. Say Goodbye to Hollywood 23:10 8. Captain Jack 27:29 9. You're My Home 34:40 10. The Ballad of Billy the Kid 37:44 11. I've Loved These Days 43:06

I always preferred Lesley Knope's lyrics to We Didn't Start the Fire though.
"Oprah has a turtle farm"

As for regular studio albums, it would, in my opinion, probably be a dead heat between "The Stranger" and this one, with this one juuuuusssst edging out the win. Other than a couple of songs, this is pretty much all hits, with "This Night" being the hidden gem.

My earliest memory of hearing his music was through watching Alvin and the Chipmunks, as strange as that probably sounds. I distinctly remember this scene:
I saw Billy in concert twice: in 1999 and 2008. I remember that for the ‘08 show, his piano was on a platform that rotated occasionally so that he faced a different part of the audience through the night.

Just to be able to compare. The Hidden Gem on this one, in my opinion once again, is "Vienna."

'We Didn't Start The Fire' is an incredible piece of song writing. It's one thing to write about events of the past, but to make the it rhyme in rapid fire fashion is something else.

I was surprised to find out it wasn't on his Essentials CDs because I honestly believe that's one of his best songs ever. And well, I don't think we can have a Billy Joel thread without mentioning Piano Man:

In my opinion, the greatest entertainer that Long Island has ever produced.

Sooo many great songs-I agree with The Stranger and An Innocent Man being two that are hard to compare. Funny enough, An Innocent Man was part of my childhood and it was Billy paying tribute to his youth, nowadays that would be like me doing an album of the 80s

Love me some Billy Joel, could listen to him for hours. Spent many a road trip as a kid listening to Innocent Man and Glass Houses on cassette in my parents minivan. Although, I can’t think of Joel now without thinking of Horatio Sanz in Step Brothers.

I just learned that he now does a concert at Madison Square Garden once a month. I guess Vince Sr. is booking him haha.
