There's a terrible version of me, singing "The Longest Time", on my youtube lol. I like that one, Uptown Girl, We Didn't Start the Fire, and Only the Good Die Young. It has one of my favorite lines in it. "We might be laughing at bit too hard, oh, but that never hurt no one".

I love me some Piano Man, but You may be right is my favourite. 'You may be right, I may be crazy, but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for!'

_Glass Houses_ was a near-perfect introduction to the post-disco, post-punk, post-70s sound of rock. Simple structures, simplish (if intelligent) lyrics, great hooks and beat. I think it marked a watershed, similarly to that of Pink Floyd's _The Wall_.

I just learned that he now does a concert at Madison Square Garden once a month. I guess Vince Sr. is booking him haha. Basically, he said a few years ago "I'm going to play once a month at MSG until the shows stop selling out, then I'm going to retire."
Every single show has been a sellout and you gotta get tickets months and months in advance to see a show. New York loves it some Billy Joel.
As for my favorites: Piano Man, Miami 2017, and Angry Young Man are my favorites of his. He's got a lot of great songs, though.

One of my favorite musical artists of all time. And I feel weird saying that because he has as many horrible songs as he does great sings.
But his stuff from the 70s is great, 80s is a mixed bag. Early 90s awesome again.

My earliest memory of hearing his music was through watching Alvin and the Chipmunks, as strange as that probably sounds. I distinctly remember this scene: I saw Billy in concert twice: in 1999 and 2005. I remember that for the ‘05 show, his piano was on a platform that rotated occasionally so that he faced a different part of the audience through the night. "If I sad goodbye to you tonight, there would still be music there to write." Is... Is that the kind of thing you want to sing to ill children?

There are four albums that I always keep in my car because I never get tired of listening to them.
Turnstiles is one of them.

He was one of my first ever "favorite musicians" as a kid, since I loved his turn as Dodger in Oliver and Company and I was a in grade school around the time River of Dreams was released. "We Didn't Star the Fire" is also a go-to karaoke song for me.
Finally saw him in concert earlier this year at MSG, dude can still put in some great work live, and his band is ridiculous. I remember trying to get to the Shea Stadium concert in 2008, but that was nearly impossible given how quickly it sold. It's great to hear the story of them getting Paul McCartney for the show, Paul had to decline at first since he'd be traveling internationally on the concert date, but he got rerouted and just so happened to land at JFK airport. A couple of phone calls and a police escort later and Sir Paul was on his way to Flushing (where he was greeted by the same groundskeeper, Pete Flynn, who had driven him and the other Beatles onto the field at Shea back in '64).

Been a fan since I was in the womb and probably have more knowledge of him than I would like to admit. Saw him twice at the Garden which still seems unreal to me.
For all the great stuff released on disc, I'm particularly partial to this:
Fun fact: Songs in the Attic should have been a Double LP but the budget and time constraints forced it to be a single LP focused on songs pre 'The Stranger'. This started me seeking out as much from the 1978-1986 stuff as I could.

He was my mom's favorite artist. And while the trope is that you rebel against the music your parents listen to, he's one of those artists that you just can't hate. I f***ing love the guy, and that will never change.
I've also been trying to coordinate between my sister, my niece, a tattoo artist family friend and myself to get some Billy Joel inspired tattoos to honor my mom. I'm trying to narrow it down to Only the Good Die Young or New York State of Mind.

Next to We Didn't Start the Fire this is my personal favorite Billy Joel song (and also the theme song to Bosom Buddies)

I don't know which one was the bigger drunken mess: This, or the rendition of Piano Man at the end of that gig.
