I have a few disconnected thoughts and theories.
1. She prefers to play the underdog and trickster character. She prefers to be a bit more comedic. "Asuka" was getting to be a bit flat character-wise. Now with the streak out of the way she can go in new directions.
2. We now know she has a family back in Japan and she may simply miss them and wants to take time off.
3. She is getting into the later stages of her career and the WWE road schedule may be something she is getting burned out on. She never did this kind of thing before in Japan. Additionally, she still doesn't speak fluent English to the point of having interesting conversations with anyone. She's limited to talking to the other Japanese people around her and that may be stifling to a person who is as gregarious as she seems to be.
4. She may have preferred to lose the streak to Charlotte, a fellow professional wrestler, than to Ronda, who is an outsider.

Charlotte is awesome, but she is treated like a big deal anyway most of the time. If I was booking WM34 I would have Asuka take the title, then have Mella snap the streak at Backlash. (Asuka would need a few weeks with the belt just for the sake of promotion.) I don't feel Asuka was irreparably damaged by the Mania loss, but if they had gone all the way with her they could have a major star alongside Charlotte, and an intriguing three-way program right now. Still, it's not like Asuka's Barry Horowitz now all of a sudden. You're right, but it still feels pointless. I mean, they're obviously building to Ronda vs. Charlotte, and Ronda vs. Asuka. If they wanted Charlotte to face her at Mania, they should've just had her lose- have Ronda beat Asuka, and then build for Charlotte to beat Asuka, leading to next Mania against Ronda.

It turned out how I imagined her run when she was called to the main roster, she is dominant for a while then Vince gets bored about her because of some things (woman that is not a hot blonde, no good English) and she randomly loses. When it happened, I originally felt good about it though since it did not feel random like feared. It was a good match, at Wrestlemania and they were booking themselves into a corner with the streak. But that changed, since obviously they had no plan how to use it after. Charlotte just randomly lost and Asuka is, instead of redeeming, cooled down. So it seems indeed some (or one) higher up got bored about Asuka and just decided to be done with the streak.

I always thought that ending the Undertaker's streak was a mistake and really stupid. I'd argue for hours that it should've never happened. However, that seems like nothing compared to this turd. Asuka should've beaten Charlotte, period. It was typical WWE nepotism at work. Asuka kissing Charlotte's ass after the match which then transitioned to the dumb John Cena stuff really sealed the deal on it.
What was gained from ending it? Charlotte was losing leading up to the match, ends the streak, and then loses after ending the streak. If you're telling me that Asuka's streak was ended for a f***ing Carmella title reign, then that's really all you need to say about the awful state of current WWE. Asuka is now an afterthought. In my opinion, it would've been smart to build to an Asuka vs. Ronda match, but that's meaningless now.

The Way the streak ended and how she kissed Charlotte's ass at the end big time so reminds me of how sting lost his first WWE match to HHH and pretty much kissed his ass too. I mean is it me or I'm seeing a pattern here
