Jim Carrey doesn't really *feel* like Robotnik; he kinda comes off as Jim Carrey with a mustache. Maybe that's how you play a live action Robotnik and I guess he can be that way in the games, but I don't know. Feels like a mix of "phoning it in" and "pointless cash-in on a franchise people know". Also, his assistant calling someone basic is making me think this is gonna be Emoji Movie levels of bad. It's basically like how his Riddler in Batman Forever was just basically "90s Jim Carrey as a supervillain". The Riddler at least was Carrey playing Gorshin era Riddler though, so there was a basis for it... not so much with Robotnik

Sonic looks just as bad as Garfield did in that live action movie years ago.

Detective Pikachu looks like a movie that you can tell was made with the utmost love & respect for the source material.
This movie is the total opposite. Made for shits & giggles (and a quick buck) with the most gratuitous nods to the source material possible.

Gangster's Paradise, the classic Sonic song. They are just hinting at the Knuckles Spin Off

This might be the worst bid budget movie ever made.

I'm sorry, but I'll be first in line for this. It's going to either be the ultimate so bad it's good flick, or actually okay therefore better than expected.

To be fair Sonic and Coolio have something common, they were only good in the 90s.

Gangster's Paradise, the classic Sonic song. Classic 90's song paired with a classic 90's property, it does kinda make sense. That said Gangsta's Paradise is hardly the fast-paced, in your face song that you'd think would fit Sonic a lot better.

But Gangster’s Paradise is freaking great.
So I approve even if it makes zero sense whatsoever.

I mean the Sonic games are still using 90s Nu Metal music afterall.

A song about systemic poverty doesn't really fit the themes of Sonic, and as a song its tempo is slow and plodding which is the exact opposite of what a trailer theme for sonic should be.

TBH, I feel as if I’m watching a totally different movie trailer than the rest of the internet.
Reportedly the CGI here is in an unpolished state, and will likely improve in future trailers, but I thought the Sonic model looked sharp anyway. Carrey’s Eggman was pretty funny, Sonic had his usual personality, and the action was genuinely cool.
Also, the writers reiterated that Sonic was going to be the lead hero, so I’m not stressing out about Marsden’s character taking up too much screen time from the title protagonist.
I already know I’m a devoted Sonic fan, but I’m not going to be biased towards a product just because it features him. So far, I don’t see the need to rage much about here. IMO, a lot of this initial negativity is coming from how generally divided the Sonic fandom is on what the character/franchise should be.
At worst, I don’t see this being the disaster so many jaded Sonic fans or people in general seem to be expecting, or even “so bad it’s good.” More than likely it’ll be a charming action-Adventure movie for kids. Frankly, right now I’m feeling less anxious about its potential than before. Or at least I’m no longer in that “woe is me, being a Sonic fan is suffering” nonsense I’ve seen from some of the fandom.
Also, as much as I genuinely want to see Detective Pikachu, I’m gotten annoyed and frustrated by people using it as a stick to essentially bludgeon Sonic with.

Man, I like Jim Carrey but that little bit they showed of him as Dr. Eggman...hmm. I don't know about that one.
Also, as I posted on twitter, "Even my mama think that my mind is gone." -Sonic The Hedgehog, 2019.

......heh, the military scene at the beginning of the trailer features Tom Butler (a veteran of Hallmark movies, shut up I'm alone it's my only connection to anything anymore), Michael Hogan (BSG's Col. Tigh) and Garry Chalk (Optimus Primal).
