I used to be a huge Jim Carrey fan. However, that has changed over the years. I stress that this has nothing to do with his political views, which I may or may not share. He just seems so full of himself now. After that documentary of him pretending to be Andy Kaufman, his anti-vaccine stance, and the stunt that he pulled with refusing to help promote "Kickass 2," due to violence (which I get being anti-gun or anti-violence, but I'm sure that those things were present in the movie script when he signed on), I can't even call myself a Jim Carrey fan. I enjoyed his very early work, but my God, he is such an ass. I doubt this performance will do much to make me think otherwise.

I just assume that Sonic is going to listen to a lot of 90s music to cash in on the Guardians of the Galaxy-type themed soundtrack trend.

Maaaaan. I’ll wait to pass judgment, but I had high hopes for this that weren’t met but why I’ve seen in that trailer.
Also, for the sequel they should use another Coolio song and just take the Kenan & Kel theme song but change it to “Sonic & Tails”. Cash in on all the nostalgia.

TBH, I feel as if I’m watching a totally different movie trailer than the rest of the internet. Reportedly the CGI here is in an unpolished state, and will likely improve in future trailers, but I thought the Sonic model looked sharp anyway. Carrey’s Eggman was pretty funny, Sonic had his usual personality, and the action was genuinely cool. Also, the writers reiterated that Sonic was going to be the lead hero, so I’m not stressing out about Marsden’s character taking up too much screen time from the title protagonist. I already know I’m a devoted Sonic fan, but I’m not going to be biased towards a product just because it features him. So far, I don’t see the need to rage much about here. IMO, a lot of this initial negativity is coming from how generally divided the Sonic fandom is on what the character/franchise should be. At worst, I don’t see this being the disaster so many jaded Sonic fans or people in general seem to be expecting, or even “so bad it’s good.” More than likely it’ll be a charming action-Adventure movie for kids. Frankly, right now I’m feeling less anxious about its potential than before. Or at least I’m no longer in that “woe is me, being a Sonic fan is suffering” nonsense I’ve seen from some of the fandom. Also, as much as I genuinely want to see Detective Pikachu, I’m gotten annoyed and frustrated by people using it as a stick to essentially bludgeon Sonic with. And yet your Sonic bias is clearly showing. The only people who have said this looks legitimately good online, and aren't merely isolating the possibility of seeing Carrey ham it up as justification, are either the "Like Sonic, dammit!" crowd... or E!'s Twitter account, which said it was a great trailer. This isn't the first (or the last) time the internet is going to beat on this property, but it's not as if it has it coming. Look at it! Everything about this from the leaked information and the posters has screamed this is a potential disaster. And, come now. "Charming" action-adventure movie for children? 9 times out of 10, these types of movies are written as if children all take Ritalin and only read Dog Cop; as in, they don't take the intended audience seriously and aim for dimwit comedy.

"Charming" action-adventure movie for children? 9 times out of 10, these types of movies are written as if children all take Ritalin and only read Dog Cop; as in, they don't take the intended audience seriously and aim for dimwit comedy. Well, nothing about the humor in that trailer came off as "dimwitted". And according to what I've heard about the crew under Paramount, they are indeed Sonic fans working on the production who consulted with Sega during the making of the film. If the movie being "written as if kids take Ritalin" is such a concern, keep in mind they're developing an action-comedy around a sassy hero who goes fast and can smash through killer robots, so of course a movie like that is going to be very fast-paced and kind of wacky in many respects. I don't think that automatically means it'll be insulting to the intelligence of parents. Also, there was someone who allegedly saw a test screening, and they said they enjoyed the movie a lot. I have no idea if this movie is going to be amazing, awful or in-between as it's not enough to make a concrete judgement so far. but I'm still starting to anticipate this more. Ad I have a heavy bias toward things like Ninja Turtles and Superman, favorite childhood characters of mine. Yet I still think that the 2014 Turtle movie wasn't very good, and that Man Of Steel was mediocre and Batman/Superman was just abysmal. If I really had an issue with this Sonic trailer, I'd say so without trying to deny how I really felt. But I think it looks cute, personally.

Also, I feel decieved by the promotional material, lmao.
I was lead to believe Sonic's thighs would be incredible. Here, it looks like my mans skipped leg day for about three years, haha.

Damien Darhk needs to go hang out with the Legends again. Detective Pikachu looks like a movie that you can tell was made with the utmost love & respect for the source material. This movie is the total opposite. Made for shits & giggles (and a quick buck) with the most gratuitous nods to the source material possible. I've never seen or played Pokemon, and I want to see Detective Pikachu because of the trailers.

Boy Gangsta's Paradise doesn't fit that Sonic trailer at all. Trailer itself I can take or leave. Cards on the table, I haven't cared bout Sonic since like 93. But the music choice is just puzzling. "Coolio is 90s, use that."
Even Fantastic Voyage woulda been a better fit.

Gangsta's Paradise doesn't fit the trailer at all. I'll say it, it looks kind of fun in a super cheesy way. I was not expecting some masterpiece so I can't say I was disappointed.

I mean, I'm all for the idea of a Sonic movie if it were CG; I think Jim Carrey would be a great Robotnik in a CG movie. The decision to go live-action was really misguided. Sega apparently wasn't even happy with Sonic's design and Carrey looks super formulaic.
Maybe it's better in context, but this was a bad first look.
