You pronounced John's surname right in that Don't agree with your review, like, at all, but glad you enjoyed it.

Looking at about a $190 million opening weekend, which is nothing to sneeze at but is well below the $245 million and $220 million the previous movies did. Combine with what a bomb it is in China and if the movie doesn't end up having very good legs it might be in the realm of possibility for it to not break a billion.... which'd be pretty embarrassing given Force Awakens broke two billion.

I am going to see the Wars Between the Stars on Christmas. Luckily got a seat for a showing that wasn't in neck pain territory though it was one of the last ones available.

Before the movie started they should have had jj Abrams talk to the audience.
"I'll be level with you folks. I'm willing to make a deal. You guys pretend the events of Last Jedi didn't happen, and we'll put in stuff you might like in this film. Theres a Leia lightsaber, Lando and Wedge return, this one chick with a nice ass who looks like an 80s scifi robot. And a bunch of of other cool shit. Sounds good? Thanks."
*barely a nanosecond after he finishes talking the Star Wars theme very abruptly blares and logo appears.*

There were only two trailers before my showing, and fifteen minutes of commercials. That’s what theatres have been reduced to in Canada.
The one trailer was that Disney movie with the Rock on an Amazon safari that comes out next summer. It’s kinda sad that I was amazed that it looked to be an original idea. I never read into it (and I don’t even remember what it was called) so I’m sure it’s based off some book or something.
The other preview was Mulan.

I think the movie with the Rock is vaguely based off the Jungle Cruise ride at Disney theme parks.

Movie did $175 million for the weekend. Seems to suggest the movie isn't going to have great legs because it's the only one of the Disney Star Wars movies that made more than 50% of its opening weekend total on Friday.

I think this one released closer to Christmas than the others (which has become a big movie day in recent years, especially when it doesn't overlap with a weekend), so we'll probably get a better idea of its longevity after next weekend.

I'm seeing it next weekend, so we'll see how that goes. But yeah, TFA, Rogue One, and TLJ's release dates were a bit farther away from Christmas. Usually the movies have overlapped in their 2nd weekend when the holiday happens. I feel like if they released it the weekend prior, it might have made a little bit more money (once again, Jumanji dealt a blow to Star Wars). Releasing it this weekend was a risk because it's in that "panic mode" aura a few days before Christmas. Then again, people calling a movie that made $175M/$373M WW in a weekend during December a bad thing kind of makes me laugh. It'll make a billion. They knew it wasn't going to do Endgame numbers, but this is more of a victory lap for Disney I feel like. They're going to have the top 5 movies of 2019, and 8 out of the top 10 (8 1/2 if you count Far From Home).

It's really going to depend what kinds of legs it has - it's an outright bomb in China, even compared to the other movies, and Force Awakens only did $1.3 billion (nothing to scoff at, but a massive drop from the $2.1 billion Force Awakens did). It's probably going to pretty to the wire on whether it actually makes it that far. Also Jumanji's kind of an interesting point of consideration because that's also not been living up to the previous one. The Christmas box office will probably be quite interesting for both movies.

Disney made 10 billion just this year alone I heard. Disney will always win. This film has to make over a billion for them. I’d say the polarized reaction shouldn’t phase them, but it’s crystal clear TLJ’s did.

People (critics and not) are reacting to Cats the same way Lovecraft described the nightmarish horrors from beyond.
