Here's the thing I don't get, in my neighborhood there is a Papa John's and right next to it is Ned's. It's a Milwaukee institution that's been open since the 60'sand it's a damn good pizza joint. No frills thin crust pizza with great sauce and damn good sausage. Why people would pay for Papa John's, when this is next door is beyond me:

I have no problem with what he said in that he was referencing the N-word to make an analogy and not using it directly. In what was supposed to be a confidential business meeting to address racism. It would be like going to a therapist to talk about your sex addiction. Then a month later the therapist leaks to the media all the weird stuff you said about sex. Well, that was kind of the whole point of the session. No, even in the analogy he was being careless, and thus racist, with the N-Word. And please do not equate a private meeting with a mental health professional with a business public-relations meeting.

BTW - in this thread I'm surprised to learn how much cheaper Papa John's seems to be in all of your area than other major pizza chains.
I get their emails all the time, and they're at least 75% more expensive than Pizza Hut/Little Caesar's/Domino's in my area.

Papa John didn't get ousted just for saying this word any more than NBC fired most of the SNL crew because Charles Rocket said "f***" on live television. He gave them an excuse they'd been waiting for after he'd become a total liability, largely with the NFL issues, and this was the probable last straw. He's not charismatic or iconic, like a mascot, or a folksy founder, like a Dave Thomas. He brought unnecessary heat onto the company without really doing anything to warrant keeping him around. He's quite literally the opposite of charismatic. He naturally looks like the creepy/rapey guy Ray Liotta played in Unlawful Entry. Like I can't watch a commercial with him in it and not think the pizza biz is just a new gimmick scheme towards raping Madeline Stowe.

I've been thinking long and hard about it and I've realized that I have never had Papa John's pizza.
I plan to keep it that way, too.

Bear in mind that no meeting involving a publicly traded company is truly private. Every single interested party, which includes potential investors, is entitled to most information within the company. The fact that this PR firm was hired is public knowledge. The fact the firm terminated their contract with Papa John's is public knowledge. It is actually in the PR firm's best interest and in the best interest of their clients to let this information get out. After all, their clients can't be that bad or else they would ditch them just like they ditched this racist douche.

I found their regular prices are pretty expensive, but they always have deals and coupons. Back when I was on their mailing list (I left it a long time ago) they used to send me E-mails at least once a week saying "Because the Yankees/Rangers/Knicks did this" everything on their menu was 50% off.

The pizza itself is ok as far as chain pizzas go. I'll always pick Pizza Hut, Marco's etc over them given the option though.

Yeah, big PR firms like this do their best to make even the worst people look alright in the public eye.
They wouldn't have dropped Schnatter as a client or let this story get out unless he was being a truly repugnant person in the meeting.

Shitty guy, shitty pizza. Their sauce is like unseasoned tomato paste. Get that junk out of here.

Well, there's more to the story. www.cnbc.com/2018/07/17/papa-johns-founder-speaks-out-on-resignation-the-board-and-kanye-west.html"I then said something on the order of, Colonel Sanders used the word 'N,' (I actually used the word,) that I would never use that word and Papa John’s doesn’t use that word," Schnatter told the board. "Let me be very clear: I never used the 'N' word in that meeting as a racial epithet, nor would I ever."John also claims that they fired Laundry Service, he wasn't dropped as a client. And that they tried to extort him for 6 million in order to not release the information. I have no dog in the fight. Papa Johns can go out of business, it will have zero impact on my life. But I hate the knee jerk reaction that always happens in these type of situations without knowing the full story and thinking everything is 100% one way.

Regardless of where ya stand, the phrasing of 'never use it as a racial epithet' is funny given that that's literally what the word is.

First, he says he was forced to use the n-word, now he's saying he was extorted. Pick a lie, stick with it.
Also, extortion is a very serious crime, so I do await the police report.

He's saying during the meeting, he was forced and afterword they tried to extort him. Neither claim contradicts the other.

It is a word used to demean a race of people. Period. He was quoting Col. Sanders(Supposedly). Not using it directly at any black person. If I say "Bob called Mary a bitch". I don't think Mary is a bitch, I don't think women are bitches because I happened to say the actual word.

If I say "Bob called Mary a bitch". I don't think Mary is a bitch, I don't think women are bitches because I happened to say the actual word. No, no, what he said was "Col. Sanders said *blank*, and no one complains about that, but they do when I do it". Nevermind that there's no notation of Col. Sanders saying it. He's basically complaining that people are getting on his shit. It's "whataboutism". The fact that he followed it up by reminiscing on the days when people he knew would drag black people around from the back of their trucks to kill them doesn't help paint him in any kind of good light. Like...I get it, you do the contrarian thing, but this is SO not the hill to die on.
