Going to be honest, I never been a fan of Star Trek. Never got into it. I've only watched the two JJ Abram movies which I enjoyed Admitly. Never watched any of the TNG show or films.
Still Iam actully considering checking this out just for Patrick Stewart being back in it. Dude is absolutely awesome and can make anything great. Is that weird coming from a non Star Trek fan?

Not sure if this is the same one or not just linked, because Youtube's region-blocking it, but here's the NYCC Trailer.

I cried at the Riker reveal. You might cry more when you hear Kurtzman's scripts.

Is this following on from Discovery? Because Discovery was shit.
I liked the recent movies, so hopefully, this is gonna be more in line with them.
That's the extent of Star Trek I've seen.

Aesthetically it looks in line with the absymal post 2009 Trek style, and given the creative team, I'm expecting it to be very much in line with Discovery, which might not be a bad thing, since I don't want Kurtzman touching anything TNG/DS9 related from 1987 to 1999. He's best suited to pissing in his own sandbox, and leaving better quality sandboxes alone.

It takes place about 20 years after Star Trek TNG and its movies, which itself took place about 120 years and change after Discovery. And the recent three movies with Chris Pine and co. were in an alternate timeline, though it seems Picard will address the destruction of Romulus that was the catalyst for the events that caused Nero to travel back in time and create that alternate timeline.

TNG is the high mark of the franchise in my view, pretty easily my favorite Star Trek show.
I'm also of the opinion that season 1 of TNG is the absolute low point of the franchise, the outright worst it's ever been by a mile with the possible exception of TAS.

Personally, I'd rank about 90% of TOS in general, not just TAS, as being the low point. Season 1 and a good chunk of Season 2 of TNG is definitely right down there with it though. Roddenberry was a visionary, but he was garbage as a storyteller.

Season 3 of TOS , Seasons 1 and 2 of TNG, a lot of Voyager, and Season 1 of Enterprise are easy low-points for me in my Trekdom. DS9 also had its share of bad episodes, but they were more spread out than concentrated in a single season. And even the bad seasons of TNG had some brilliant episodes like "Measure of a Man" and "Q Who." Hell, Season 3 of TOS had the excellent "The Enterprise Incident" and very good "The Tholian Web."

Season 1 of TNG and 1/2 of Enterprise strike me as the lowest points. The former induces far more second hand embarrassment at some of the costumes, acting choices, and dialogue, while the latter is just consistently awful in its writing, particularly in making Archer not only unlikable but appearing vastly underqualified for his position as Captain.
Voyager falls into more of the beige category of rarely reaching Enterprise's lows (Threshold & Tattoo aside), but not really reaching the latter's better consistency in season's 3/4 either. Janeway and company were the TV dinner of Trek; you always knew what you were getting and it wasn't much for surprising you with its choices or directions.

Voyager was never as bad as its most vocal detractors made it out to be, but was never that good either. The most frustrating thing for me was that it never truly made the most of its premise. Rarely did it feel like a show about a crew stranded on the other side of the known universe, struggling to get home with limited resources and a ragtag crew made up of rookies and wanted criminals. For the most part it felt like any other Trek show.

I didn't think Tattoo was that bad; an average episode of Voyage (which admittedly isn't great, but). But I thought the S2 episode with Tuvok crash-landed on a world with a bunch of apparent alien children was a lot worse just because the writing was pants-on-head stupid.

The problem with Tattoo is mostly when you stop and really think about it - it's effectively about how Chakotay's people (who are already an awful sludge of stereotypes and inconsistent traits from many tribes as it is) were a bunch of mindless savages until space men (who happen to be white) came and gave them their culture.
