This thread was spawned from the Metallica vs Megadeth thread. After some heated discussion Anthrax and Slayer were thrown into the mix. So I figured why not make a poll about the 4 biggest Thrash bands in the world.
I personally prefer Megadeth out of all of them because their songs have incredibly complex soloing (as seen in the Rust In Peace album). The riffs are amazing, and the vocals... well the first 3 albums had some songs which really worked with Daves vocals, but others were comically great. I personally think Rust In Peace is better than anything the other 3 had ever done. So that's why I went with Megadeth.
And you?

Slayer.
Metallica got watered down and dull. Just because it's cliche to hate on 'em for the post-"Justice" era don't mean it ain't right; "Metallica"-forward is flat-out rubbish.
Anthrax has awesome songs, but never seemed comfortable in their skin; Joey Belladonna is not a great vocalist, while the band was tight. But the musicianship fell to lukewarm alt-metal under the superior vocals of John Bush.
Megadeth is awesome, but inconsistent; for every "Rust In Peace", there's "So Far, So Good, So What?", or "Peace Sells ..." to "Cryptic Writings".
Only Slayer has managed to be consistent, stay true to their roots AND experience a little growth (adding melodies on some albums, going a little more punk on others), and never dip in quality. From "Reign In Blood" forward, every album is a keeper.
Jed Shaffer ~If Metallica gets ANY votes, I'll be surprised.

Colour yourself surprised. I've never really listened to Slayer, but of the other three bands...my favourite is still Metallica. I like Megadeth quite a bit and all...never really got into Anthrax...and I need to give Slayer a listen...but even so, Metallica will probably still be my favourite.
Um...sorry?

Isn't voting without having listened to half the nominees kinda ... faulty? Just sayin'.
Jed Shaffer ~Alright, so I'm surprised. Slayer's still better. ;D

Seriously, though, Megadeth rules all.

Megadeth - Stopped being good at Countdown to Extinction. Best albums are Peace Sells, Rust in Peace, and Countdown.
Metallica - They stopped being good at Master of Puppets (and I did not like Kill 'Em All).
Anthrax - They suck except for Among the Living.
Slayer - They suck except for Reign in Blood and that album is starting to annoy me.

I gotta give it to Megadeth, with Slayer being a close second. Rust in Peace KILLS. I still listen to it regularly. Slayer I have to be in the mood for. Anthrax could've been a LOT bigger if they had ever had a standout vocalist. They had some killer songs, with some insane riffs, but Belladonna is a bit dramatic without having the skills to do so. And John Bush? He sucked in Armored Saint, he sucked in Anthrax.
And Metallica? Lets just say they died with Cliff Burton and pretend they no longer exist.

I'd say Slayer, They have stayed true to their roots, and Metallica isn't even a thrash band anymore-I love Megadeth and Anthrax, but Slayer is one of the heaviest bands in the world-so they get my vote

Anthrax.
Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer guys at least have a sense of humor, Metallica is all business and that's what lets them down completely and allows them to become the absoloute joke they've become.

I don't mean song wise, just that they dont screw around in abandoned army bases with therapists trying to find a 'groove'. They just go out there and f*** shit up.

I didn't mean in their songs either. You ever read an interview with KK? Seriously, the intensity in that man could out-perform Hoover Dam.
But totally agreed with the therapists and "groove" crap. Slayer gets in there, plays, done.
Jed Shaffer ~Besides, I can't see guys who write "Sex.Murder.Art.", "Angel Of Death" and "Dead Skin Mask" having heart-to-hearts.
