here's why. For a minute I'm going to deviate from my normal wacky-ness, so if you're looking for comedy don't look here.
If you live in GA (Or maybe even if you don't, I dunno) maybe you heard about the trial of two pieces of s***, 17 and 19 year old brothers who broke into a community center and destroyed everything inside from computers to pictures, and, oh, yeah, also killed a 3 month old puppy by covering her with paint and baking her in an oven.
Yeah.
I had been following the trial closely and somehow managed to miss the verdict, which I looked up this morning. They were found not guilty on an 11-1 vote because ONE DUMB B**** thought they didn't do it.
Let's review.
Several children saw them break into the community center, and heard them brag about it.
A fire extinguisher was used during the vandalism. Police recovered a backpack belonging to one of the "boys" with a lot of chemical residue on the inside from a chemical inside fire extinguishers.
Also, the "boys" demeaner the entire time was said to be "cold" and "bored".
The inside of the oven was covered with blood, feces, and urine. The puppy was duct taped around its mouth so it couldnt bark, hog tied around the legs, and covered in paint. Her legs must've broken free, because she scratched at the oven door until her nails were ripped off and she suffered nerve damage from trying to escape till she SLOWLY died.
But because one stupid 68 year old b**** decides there "isn't enough evidence" she lets these f***ing piece of trash monsters go, so now they've learned the system is useless and they will do it again, and worse.
I love the fact that we live in a world where ONE MORON WITH A DEFECTIVE BRAIN can change everything. If America is a democracy, majority should rule and these mutants, these evolutionary throwbacks, should be in jail for the rest of their meaningless lives. I really, really wish I could meet these two for 15 minutes alone, with no witnesses and no cameras. but thanks to ONE GOD DAMN PERSON THEY ARE LAUGHING THIS MORNING BECAUSE THEY GOT AWAY WITH MURDER.
F*** it.

Wait, I'm confused (and horrified, but that's aside the point).
You said the jury was 11-1. But one person thought they were not guilty. So, they would be ... the 1 in 11-1? Wouldn't that mean a hung jury, or a mistrial? If so, they can be tried again. Because, for the life of me, I can't understand how ONE voice silences 11 and the verdict goes the 1's way.
Not trying to nitpick or anything. Just trying to get the clear picture.
Agreed, though, that the justice system is f***ed up, like those "kids" are.

What a dumb bitch. I mean, really, just because you saw 12 Angry Men does NOT MEAN that everybody who has ever been a defendant in a trial is, in reality, innocent. The evidence clearly points to these two, for God's sakes!
Either that or Georgia should change its laws to allow a two-thirds vote. This would prevent Old Lady Bleeding Heart from giving every "nice young man" a second chance.
So, madam, if this should ever get back to you somehow, I would like to congratulate you for successfully setting the American justice system back 200 years.

Yeah, each state has a choice on pretty much everything. A jury can have anywhere between 12 and 22 constituents. Depending on the state, a verdict can be handed down either by a two-thirds vote or unanimous decision.

Well you see courts in Georgia have far more important matters on their minds, like whether or not to place DISCLAIMER STICKERS in textbooks that mention evolution that it is "only a theory and not fact, so please dont have your church come protest us", and trying to ban Harry Potter books from school libraries. Cooking puppies, though, thats ok. So long as they weren't churchgoing puppies. Wait, I'm confused (and horrified, but that's aside the point). You said the jury was 11-1. Maybe instead of "not guilty" I should say they "weren't convicted", I dunno. I read a couple different news sites, and most used the term "not guilty". Not sure, though. My main point was 11 should over-ride 1

Yes, but if this woman was the only dissenting voice, that's not 2/3's, or unanimous, or even a SIMPLE majority. That's the smallest minority possible. Unless she convinced 10 others. In which case, she's insane, as well as charismatic. Jed Shaffer ~And if THAT'S the case, then it's obvious it's not an old woman: it's Vince McMahon.

According to what she told a newspaper, they constantly told her she was stupid and wrong, but by god she stuck to her guns! Stupid old ****.

Will the state go after them again? I mean, hopefully someone like this won't be on the jury the next time.

What do you expect from our f***ing Justice System?
We're the country that allows convicted child molesters to be sentenced to 60 days of therapy, rather than the 25+ years these monsters deserve.
We sit and debate about "light punishment" for a mother who rented out her 9 year old to a man and helped her molest her for $20 a pop.
We allow murderers to cut book and TV special deals so they can tell us how they "would've done it"?
This country needs some serious vigilante justice. And the more brutal, the better.

And as for other means of punishment, they could sentence these screwballs to a 20 minute minimum time limit steel cell match, no holds barred, with New Jack, all weapons allowed. It gives Jack something to do, he gets paid, and justice is served.

I dont think they CAN be tried for the same thing again. I haven't heard anything further on it, no. Well, I guess not. For the record, double jeopardy only comes into effect if they were found 'not guilty' the first time, but I'm still a little iffy on this. I doubt the judge would declare them "not guilty" because of one person. So, either it was a mistrial and they can try again, or he meant to say mistrial, accidentally blurted out "not guilty", and banged the gavel before he realized his mistake.

If you're right on that, I seriously hope it DOES go to trial again, and I'll even take off work to be there (Not that it'll do any good) but animal rights is a big deal to me (Not that I'm one of those celery-wielding PETA guys, though) and animal murder is just as serious as human murder to me. (In the case of domestic animals, that is. I see nothing wrong with farming animals to eat, its the food chain, dammit, watch the Simpsons)

Jan. Retrial in Puppy Abuse Case
After deliberating for nearly two days, a Fulton County jury was unable to reach a verdict in the puppy abuse trial.
Teenage brothers, Justin and Joshua Moulder, were on trial for killing a puppy by baking it in an oven.
The case came down to 11 jurors who wanted to convict the teens, and one who did not. The result -- hope on one side, and frustration on the other.
The frustration came from the jurors who wanted to convict the boys on animal cruelty charges, and with lone juror who did not want to.
“She didn’t seem to want to discuss the issues,” said juror Richard Moore. “We spent two days deliberating, and she had made up her mind when she walked into the room.”
The prosecution’s case was built mostly around the testimony of neighborhood kids, who say Joshua and Justin bound the pit-bull mix with duct tape, and then baked it in an oven. Despite some changes and contradictions in their stories, most of the jurors believed them.
“The children were young, and they were in different positions on the playground, so it makes sense that their stories weren’t identical,” said juror Kathi Hazan.
Joshua and Justin had little reaction when it was announced that their case would be tried again.
“They are frustrated, they want this case to be over with,” said defense attorney Timothy Owens.
The jurors say that when the case is tried again, they plan on being there.
The boys’ father says he loves them very much, and wants badly for them to come home to him, and hopes that will now happen. However, the case will be retried very quickly -- it is set for January 3.

I hear ya, Godz...my faith in the justice system dies a little bit piece by piece when I hear that a burglar successfully sues the owners of a house he breaks into and he gets injured and those other Stella Award winners...
Or when a five foot tall pedophile who molests a kid in Nebraska gets off with probation because the judge doesn't perceive him as a threat and probably wouldn't survive in prison basically setting a precedence for the vertically challenged chapter of NAMBLA to roll into town and start groping kids knowing damn good and well that they might be able to get away with it.
It's sad sometimes.
