there are Vegas odds on who the next Superman will be... because of course there f***ing is. Who's in the lead? comicbook.com/dc/amp/2018/09/14/who-will-be-the-new-superman-vegas-odds-released/Michael B. Jordan. Who I don't see getting it at all. I've loved every performance MBJ has done. I think he's pretty much untouchable. But none of them make me think he'd be a good Supes. I think it was a total PR move. Rest of the listed names are pretty silly too. Though I do laugh at the thought of Baby Goose doing it and being moody throughout.

I don’t think Superman translates to 2018 honestly. Then you haven't seen the right Superman stories. The character can 100% work in any time period, they just don't have the right people trying to make it happen.

Tyler Hoechlin already played the role on Supergirl and I like him. Reboot the DCU with him, bring Melissa Benoist into the films, and keep Gal as Wonder Woman and Drogo as Aquaman. Just say that another reality or some shit has been created to thankfully abandon the Snyderverse.

Off the top of my head. What's so funny bout truth justice and the American way, Allstar Superman, for the man that has everything, and Whatever happened to the man of tommorow. That first one in particular shows how Superman is still relevant.

That first one in particular shows how Superman is still relevant. I've only experienced the former in the form of Superman vs. The Elite but it is SO damn good. Does a great job of showing everything that makes Superman's character work and how someone can be a legitimate threat to him even if they have no hope of actually beating him in a fight.

I don’t think Superman translates to 2018 honestly. Based on what really? Like If Batman, Spider-man, etc work..and clearly they are like gangbusters, how does Superman not. Like it's not the square jawed hero thing---see Captain America. It's not powers---see Thor

But, I haven’t read or dived into a lot of Superman, so I could be completely wrong. That is why I asked for suggestions on Superman stories in a reply.

What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way, or the movie adaptation Superman vs. The Elite, is a perfect place to start. The story is all about Superman struggling with his optimistic worldview and non-lethal methods being tested by and on some level turned against due to the rise of a much more brutal group of crimefighters led by a psychic named Manchester Black, who is in my view one of Superman's best adversaries to the point it's really a huge shame he's only appeared a handful of times outside of that one story. It pretty much simultaneously goes to show why Superman is the way he is, how someone can still be a threat to him even without being able to beat him, and how this character can still be written in a captivating manner.

Ah ok, people mention that sorta thing, but it's like people still thinkin Batman is only the Adam West version or Aquaman is only the Superfriends version etc. It's like that stuff is there, but hasn't been for a very long time honestly.
Superman Secret Identity
For All Seasons
Kingdom Come
The aforementioned books that others talked about. Byrne's Man of Steel is great, if dated. But basically you can put the character in different kinds of stories and it work. Hell the animated version of the late 90s early 2000s was very much a version that was stripped down to the essentials. All quite good and different.

People seem to be sick and tired of the dark gritty shit, And here's the thing... The Superman STORY can be dark and gritty... But SUPERMAN is the symbol of hope and the light in the darkness, so even if everything is going to shit he remains firm in his convictions despite that.

They'd have to end Red Son before the last five minutes.
