One of Pivetta, Eflin, Velazquez really needs to make some strides this year. Luckily for Philly they still got good prospects and won't be surprised if they are the ones to grab Kluber from the Indians or even Kluber and Bauer (assuming he has a real good season again) Always "lower options" like Marcus Stroman to consider too but I still think they grab someone else whether it be Kimbrel or Keuchel
If the Phillies could get Stroman without giving up too much I'd be all for that. The trade deadline will be interesting this year.

People are def going to be screaming for them as title contenders but they will have wiggle room this year due to the NL East being a beast. Nats got the pitching, ATL is young and good, Philly has a well rounded team with a crazy line up and Mets have great pitching and if get a little offense they will be good Come this time next year, Philly will be on the clock for "World Series" or bust but as much as Philly has improved this year and are the favorites in the division now, that division is still going to be insane and Philly will def need another top pitcher at some point
One of Pivetta, Eflin, Velazquez really needs to make some strides this year. Wouldn't be shocked if Pivetta did.

Not even close to big, but the Blue Jays signed P Clay Buchholz, pending a physical. He may have been really good with the Diamondbacks, but I do remember him being plenty injured a lot so not sure how to feel about this deal. Could be another R.A. Dickey where he had one great year, and then went back to his previous form of being mediocre at best afterwards.

He had like a really low ERA on the Diamondbacks that somewhat shouldn't have been that way based upon the numbers but in the end he's another arm at them to throw out there and if he does well you can trade to someone looking for depth

I've given several Red Sox people I know some guff that they need to be thanking the Blue Jays all over for trading Steve Pierce to them (as I hated them doing that at the time)

However, I keep going back to Keuchel because they need a Lefty in that rotation

Buchholz had a few brilliant years in Boston but man did injuries derail what could've been a hall of fame career.

Blue Jays are in the middle as they aren't contending but they got tradeable pieces and want to have a competitive team in 2 years to pair with Vlad Jr and Bichette
If Pillar, Smoak, and Morales can have good years I can see them being traded this year

If Pillar leaves, that will really suck as I really like him and it is a damn shame he was never given a Golden Glove

There's Kevin Kiermaier, Mookie, Buxton, Alex Gordon, and JBJ. It's loaded with guys who play elite defense every year, so some guys are going to be left out. I can't believe that Harper signed with no opt-out, that's surprising. In news that's not a surprise, the Phillies sold 100,000 tickets in one afternoon after the Harper signing. Reason number 2 why teams would pay a lot for him.

Lorenzo Cain didn't win a gold glove in his time in Kansas City...think about that.

One thing that's disconcerting about Kevin Pillar is that he never took the next step in hitting. A sub .300 OBP guy just isn't cutting it in today's MLB.
In regards to the Harper acquisition, he's what the lineup should look like:
1. McCutchen, RF 2. Segura, SS 3. Harper, LF 4. Realmuto, C 5. Hoskins, 1B 6. Herrera, CF 7. Franco, 3B 8. Hernandez, 2B
That's a pretty sick lineup, I must admit.
Shame for the Mets, though. They made some nice moves that were designed to bring them into relevance, and now they still find themselves the third-or-fourth best team in the division. It'll definitely be the Braves, Phillies, and Nationals at each other's neck for the crown. Unless, of course, the Mets mow everyone down with their pitching.
As for options to shore up their pitching, I don't think Stroman is going to be a real upgrade for them. Between his ineffective, injury-riddled campaign last year and his general short stature, I don't think he's built to have a long career in the majors as a semi-elite pitcher. Think Lincecum and his drop from prominence.

The other thing with Pillar is that while he made a lot of flashy catches, they were way more high effort than they should've been, which suggests bad initial positioning and awareness. That's why he in particular lost out on the gold glove to a guy like Kiermaier who not only made amazing catches, but made it look so effortless in the process.
