"At least 30 N64 games," seems ludicrously overly optimistic. They couldn't even be bothered to have that many on the SNES Classic and it doesn't have the far larger file sizes or wide array of emulation issues that N64 games do plus it has a much richer library.
That said I'm very much looking forward to it, especially if this thing is as moddable as the others.

I just wonder how much space there will be for games outside the first-party stuff, and how much of it will be things a casual gamer would want/remember.
I mean, Goldeneye is out. If somehow that got onto the system, that in itself would be as noteworthy as the N64 Classic itself.
Smash Bros. would be a longshot. Nintendo likes to not re-release those (with the exception of the OG on the Virtual Console). Then again, Sakurai seems to have a real hard-on for the original game...hell, he made a STUPID move with the roster for Ultimate because "tee hee, it's the original game, get it?!?"
Mario Party and Smash isn't worth the trouble without 4 controllers. And maybe you can have a bundle with 4 controllers, but those controllers are on an entirely different tier tech-wise compared to the NES/SNES controllers. No way in hell those controllers go for anything less than $30. Having to get 4 to play Mario Party or Smash Bros.? At that point you're sinking a ton of money. And yeah, there is the convenience of an HDMI mini console, I get that. I use a Retron 5 for my older games myself and have OG consoles tucked away. But the casual person wanting this for a Christmas gift and to get their nostalgic rocks off ain't gonna want to sink that much.
Banjo-Kazooie ain't happening. Nothing from Rare with the exception of Donkey Kong 64 is on the table, I'd think.
I'd give maybe one of the Bomberman games a shot, but no more than one. And hopefully it wouldn't be 2nd Attack. It's rare and all, but damn is it bad.
With the exception of Snap, I wouldn't give any Pokemon games a chance. Hell, I wouldn't want any part of Stadium 1 or 2 without the Game Boy connectivity...but Snap would have a real shot.
MAYBE you'd get Crusin' USA. Not my kind of game (and I dunno who owns the rights on that since Midway went belly up...hell, you gotta wonder about a bunch of games at that point...Crusin' World, NFL Blitz, NBA Hangtime, anything MK, anything Rush, ). But about any N64 convo I have with someone that isn't a hardcore, Crusin' USA gets brought up at some point. It's not in that first group like a Mario Kart/Party, Smash, or Goldeneye, but you'd have to think that's in.
Just seems to me like, unless you're fine with a large amount of the games not just being 1st party but being Mario stuff, you'd need to have at least a few titles Nintendo is gonna have to do some asspulls to get, beyond just the "asking a company they're on good terms with right now". And then there's some with 3rd party licenses that I wonder if they can do business with or alter the game, such as WaveRace 64, 1080, and Excitebike 64.
Then again, I wonder if they'd throw a shelved game in with it. Sin and Punishment? Custom Robo? Zelda; Master Quest?
I just don't know if the N64 Classic (again, without pulling some crazy shit) can have the 3rd party titles or the games people would expect on this thing. Unless you're fine with damn near half the titles being Mario stuff, this isn't gonna be as much an "automatic" as the NES/SNES Classics were. Not to mention, you gotta hope they have some idea for a memory card system. If they make you buy those separately (without on-board memory or use of an SD card), that's gonna be a sore spot regardless of cost. Not to mention (and I know this won't be a selling point for the majority), the modding for it is gonna be rougher (I won't go into further details per the TOS).

I think Banjo is within the realm of possibility. Nintendo and Microsoft are pretty cooperative these days and Microsoft doesn't have a horse in this particular race because they don't have quite the same rich history as a Nintendo or a Sony does. Also I'd say Sin & Punishment would be a near certainty to be included, since it got Virtual Console releases on the Wii and Wii U. Not like it'd be a gigantic selling point but it being the first time a lot of super casual fans would be hearing of it could be a bit helpful in trying to push it. Though yeah, the multiplayer thing is a big issue. Mario Kart 64 would certainly help to sell it, but the controller expense is a real issue. And then there's Mario Party where they'd probably include 2 because it's the one they like to push but 3 is the way better game.

doubt it would be December, not enough time to create demand.

"At least 30 N64 games," seems ludicrously overly optimistic. Especially considering this system likely won't have most of the Rare games (DK64, possibly Blast Corps and if they're lucky, Diddy Kong Racing)

It can't be worse than the PS1 classic, at least.

The only Rare N64 games that Nintendo has the rights to are DK64, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye 007 and maybe Mickey's Speedway USA. I'm kind of hoping we do get Diddy Kong Racing, since I always feel like that was a better racing game then Mario Kart 64.

They have to release the N64 Classic first before re-releasing it.Huge opportunity to sell all the fun controllers the N64 was known for with this thing.
I have to wonder if they'll stop with 64 or if they'll be bold and go into Gamecube's library after this. 64 is fairly easy to emulate, so it was always a question of when rather than if for that one. They'll have to cut a few deals, but I imagine they can formulate a solid 15+ games for it. As long as I can put Revenge on it with minimal effort/problems, I'm interested.
EDIT: It'll be great if they can go the extra mile and fix some of the framerate issues certain games have (like Mario Kart's 4-player).

Honestly the Gamecube would likely be MUCH easier to do than the N64 would be. They'd need a bigger hard drive and that's problematic, but the plus side is the Wii and Wii U are both stupid easy to emulate Gamecube games on while the N64 has a ton of difficulties for various hardware reasons.

Yeah I’m not really buying this one yet. If it were coming out they’d have already announced it
I think they can wait two years for another one. Sales have finally started to slow down on the other two and it’s very easy to find one of them now. Don’t want to completely saturate the market just yet

Don’t want to completely saturate the market just yet Plus they use the same architecture that is basically emulation and the systems can play any of the games requested to begin with if modded...I understand Nintendo has realized that emulation actually kept their product alive but the pandering that it is anything more then a souped up Raspberry Pi is ridiculous

Since whenever it does happen it's inevitable Paper Mario will be on it, wonder if they'll find a way to fix the Monstar fight. Even the Wii and Wii U releases of the game don't render it correctly.
