So obviously this is the most divisive MCU film. So what was the previous? I would say Incredible Hulk or Iron Man 3. Those films didn't seem divisive at all in terms of audience reaction. The general consensus from most people is that those movies aren't great, but aren't completely terrible. Also, Shang Chi made both those movies retroactively better. I would say the best comparison is Captain Marvel. A lot of people thought it was garbage, but I see about as many women in Captain Marvel merch as Wonder Woman merch. On a personal note, I'm having a rough time with this. I tried to watch it last night, and it was just so damn boring. I even smoked weed first to try to make it better. I still fell asleep about halfway through and barely retained what I saw. I'll try again today, but at least with Captain Marvel I had Brie Larsen to look at for a couple hours. I guess this has Angelina Jolie to look at, but she seemed to hardly be in it and have no personality.

The divisiveness I see there is mostly a minority of Snyder Cult types. I have only met one person IRL that didnt like it. Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 3 have a lot of detractors and supporters because of the same issue, not enough of the title character. Hulk you can understand because of the effects cost and the franchise being new. And Iron Man 3 they were trying something different.

This film was fine, just a bit dull, a bit 'there.' It was too much story for one film and nothing really seemed suspenseful because the stakes were so high, the ending was obvious. I dont get why {Spoiler}{Spoiler} everyone keeps saying Icarus died. He flew in to the sun, but we never saw him pop or burn. He's a cosmic power battery. Why would the sun hurt him? Why would that be the assumption based on the old rule of no body, not dead. He'll be back. Redemption arc needed.
It comes to something when I felt the most exciting part of the film was both credits sequence.

Their bodies die but their consciousness just gets installed into a new body, so I look at it as Ikaris does die at the end of the movie, but he'll he back again in a new body, probably as an outright antagonist, and somehow he'll get his memories back and get his redemption.

It comes to something when I felt the most exciting part of the film was both credits sequence. {Spoiler}I took it as meant to be interpreted symbolically. "Ikaris dies by flying too close to the sun". It's one of the many reasons I feel the movie was too pretentious for its own good. {Spoiler}The catch here is the Eternals are functionally immortal. Their bodies die but their consciousness just gets installed into a new body, so I look at it as Ikaris does die at the end of the movie, but he'll he back again in a new body, probably as an outright antagonist, and somehow he'll get his memories back and get his redemption. {Spoiler}I was under the impression that the whole "new bodies/mindwpe" thing was dependent on machinery on their space ship. They don't just automatically regenerate a new body like a Time Lord.

Having recently rewatched Captain Marvel for the first time, and ending up feeling the same way as before, I'd say that was the last one before Eternals that I feel kinda meh about. But, the whole middle section, the buddy cop stuff with Fury, is lots of fun. It's really the poor start and rather mixed bag finish that lets it down, for me, at least. Eternals didn't really have a solid part of proper length where I was thinking yeah, this is good stuff. Favourite bits were probably both involving Kingo, with {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{SPOILER: CLICK TO SHOW}the big Bollywood musical number and the fight in the forest. and neither were that long. Compared to a 2-and-a-half-hour run time, anyway. I don't feel comfortable dunking on this film too much. I wanted to feel better about it. If Zhao ever decided to do a second MCU film, though, I reckon it'd be a better outcome. Eternals was a very different production experience than anything she's done before and I think both the good and bad from that would be valuable. And, maybe, not having four writers and so many main characters to introduce.

I tapped on this. Tried twice. Fell asleep once. Was bored to tears an hour in the second time.
This is the first actual MCU movie I've tapped out on. I try to watch everything MCU, even if it isn't terrific.
The only other stuff I tapped out on was Inhumans and seasons 6-7 of Agents Of Shield.

Yeah, it's not bad, but it's not great. It felt rushed and slow at the same time. We didn't need a lot of the flashbacks, I felt. They should have gone with one or other of the main plots, not both. I found that a lot of the main characters weren't very likable, and the ones that were... weren't in the film very much.

I really enjoyed it, though with how mythologically dense the movie is, it would have worked far better as a mini-series, or something. Movie length is just not enough time to flesh it all out.

Like everyone else said it would of been much better as a mini series on Disney plus.

I’ve tried at least 4 times to watch this and I just get bored every time and I give up….
This will just be the once MCU movie I just don’t finish…the end credits were pretty good though…

Finally saw this... it was... ok.
My biggest issue was... if you are filming at night or in a cave or something... LIGHT YOUR DAMNED MOVIE. It was impossible to see at points.
other issues that stuck with me... the lead Deviant... like didn't need to be in the movie at all...
it also felt way too long... but that said I'm not sure what I would cut outside of the "head deviant" just being another deviant.
This probably should have been one of their Disney+ shows instead.

One of the potentially relevant MCU scenes that deserves a rewatch. Wonder what the fallout will be moving forward for how people will react to Phase 4 and beyond.

One of the rumors is that the fallout from a giant pushing his way out of the Earth will be Atlantis being endangered. Leading to Namors debut.
