Referring to the general manager concept.
Can't we just have Vince in his office when there is an announcement to make, ala Jack Tunney?
Heel or face, they passed their expiration date countless years ago.

They have no idea to write stories without them, so as dead as it is we're going to keep getting them over and over and over and over and over.

I like authority figures but the hrand split wore the concept down. Id like a singular gm for, both brands since, they don't differ in production and share ppvs

It’s a stupid trope from the Attitude Era that won’t die because the company is lazy as hell. Even the actual concept of picking the GM’s is stupid. Paige retiring and then in kayfabe running a brand would be like if JR smith retired and got hired to assist Adam Silver with basketball operations.
A Tunney authority figure is all they need. The matches should already be announced before the show and only with any big changes should the authority figure be present.

I don't mind the role if it's the way Paige and Angle were doing it, but a whole other "Commissioner" for each brand is idiotic. Just have Triple H and Steph occasionally show up for the big announcements on either show.

The concept is played out..unless you are El Jefe of course than you are that one that redefined how a GM/owner can and should be done.
IN WWE on the other hand there is no more juice to squeeze from that orange.
Face GM does face things...untill either they are humiliated or fired after the roster questions their tactics of letting things out of controll
Or you remain GM and turn heel as no one on your roster listens to you...and then you are fired and humiliated for letting things get out of controll and get replaced by a face GM....and then repeat the first step

A Tunney authority figure is all they need. Oh sure, Jack “on the take” Tunney is what we need to keep things moral and right, you make me sick Gorilla Monsoon

I don't mind face authority figures like Kurt, Paige and Stephanie (as of late), but I'm completely over heel authority figures even if I still think Corbin getting his ass kicked is fun to watch.

My first instinct is to agree, then I remember that I love Regal.
I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with the concept it just needs updating a bit. Mostly they should support the story rather than be the story and drop boring rambling promos to set up the weeks main event. If they come out in front of a crowd they need a good reason.

Shane would’ve been best for the Jack Tunney role.

I don't mind face authority figures when they don't wrestle. Paige is awesome, and Commissioner Foley was incredible. It's when the authority figures are heels and endlessly screw over the babyfaces and put them in bullshit matches that I get sick of it.

Authority figures Haven't really changed any since the Attitude era.
It's still a crutch that the authority figure makes matches when the show has already started, it's a bad GM who hasn't got a show planned and they are kind of lucky they is usually an opening promo somebody can interrupt so the GM can make an appropriate match for later in the night.

But we all love EEEEEVVIILLLLLLL authority figure storylines.
Plus if they go to a more Jack Tunney/ less highlighted managerial style, it will make it harder for the McMahons to give themselves so much screentime when they want it.

I don't necessarily think GM's are a bad thing. It's just when things get lazy that we have a problem. I look at William Regal as an example of the GM concept done right. Regal is fairly neutral, and just makes big announcements or furthers a story.
That being said...I was really hoping Johnny Ace as GM would be that he was neutral, but would accidentally favor the heels 'cause he's an idiot that thinks he's fair. Alas...tropes.

William Regal, Johnny Saint, and Drake Maverick (peepants aside) are examples of the GM conxepr done right currently.

I still think Regal is good because he only shows up in backstage segments apart from breaking up fights and announcing matches, or doing official duties like contract signings. Makes him look like he's actually doing his job.

Paige wrestled for 12 years and comes from a family that runs its own promotion. She may actually be over qualified to be a GM.
