I always wondered what happened after dinner. Was Neal like, "So, Del...you gonna hit the road or what?" Does he help Del get a job with the ad agency? Does he let Del crash at his house? Any theories? Venturing into fanfiction, but my take is: Neil lets Del stay with him and his family for a while, giving him an actual home fo the first time in years. And this enables Del to finally move on from his wife’s passing and restart his life, but they remain friends and see each other frequently.

The Casio line is a good example of sone of the great physical comedy both of them do. From Martin's run to get a cab in Manhattan to Candy's mock piano playing in the car, it's an element of the movie that isn't fully apprecated.

Seeing how effective Candy was in the serious moments of the film really makes which he'd gotten the chance to do more dramatic work before he passed.

I liked it the first time I saw it, the second time seemed depressing-maybe it was my mood That's because the second time you watch it knowing what the punch is at the end and it kind of lingers with you the whole time - like a second-person guilt, you know? Don't worry, pretty much eveyrone who watches it has this as their second experience. Third time through it's out of your system and funny again.

………………………………..I've never seen this Without hyperbole, it's the thanksgiving classic. I'd suggest avoiding reading anything else in the thread because of inevitable spoilers and catching it as soon as you can. Great film.

Made a girl friend watch it for the first time last night. My favorite scene is the car rental desk scene. Have loved this movie since it came out. It is a definite 80s movie tho. Which is f***in awesome.

I’ve never cared for it. Having worked at an airport rental car desk though, I can certainly say that scene made me smile.

I’ve never cared for it. Having worked at an airport rental car desk though, I can certainly say that scene made me smile. The fact that it's Edie McClurg playing the attendant is the icing on the cake. In fact I'll bet she was cast in that role just for the sole purpose to hear her drop an f-bomb in that accent of hers, the same way she was cast as the secretary in Farris Bueller's Day Off so we can hear her say "righteous dude."

Just watched it tonight on my DVR. What a great, great movie. John Candy is sorely missed for sure. I am a huge Steve Martin fan, so this movie is a definite thumbs up from me.

Seeing how effective Candy was in the serious moments of the film really makes which he'd gotten the chance to do more dramatic work before he passed. You got two choices for dramatic Candy - Only the Lonely has serious moments, even if is a comedy and, my favorite, his scenes in JFK. He is AH-MAZING in what is a bit part really, but he owns it. Damn, I miss him. But I digress. This movie is a classic. Neil’s meltdown at the rental counter is how I WISH I could just blow when I have had enough. But he also has arguably the best line when he and Del are talking about their wives, what husbands should aspire to: “At the very least, at the absolute minimum, you have someone to grow old with.”
