I feel like I might catch heat for saying this, but I really, really, really want this movie to just stay out of the realm of political allegory. I just want to sit in a cinema, turn my brain off from the world around me, and just be scared by what's happening on the screen in front of me without it also becoming a sociology lecture. Yeah, you'll enjoy it.

Besides the directing and acting I didn't think much of this movie

Just got back. That was fan-freaking-tastic! I loved everyone’s performances, but Lupita Nyong’o in particular really brought it. If she isn’t considered for acting awards for this, damn. The soundtrack was fantastic too. Like everyone already knows about the amazing remix for “I Got 5 On It”, but there were a few tracks I think even managed to be better than that. I think people should also know that "I Got 5 On It" sampled "Why You Treat Me So Bad?" from Club Nouveau. I mean I liked the sample for the score, but people should know that the latter came first.

I figured there would be a lot more discussion about this than what's been had. What's up FAN? Did anyone other than those who posted about it get around to watching it?

Watched it last night.
The first 80% of this movie was decent. The last 20% were Shyamalan levels of iffy writing. What happened leaves so many inconsistencies.
But, the acting was absolutely phenomenal (except for the boy, I didn't think he was very good). Overall I'd still say this movie is good, it blended humor and horror well, even if the writing does jump the shark a bit at the end.

I feel the same way. From what I've read about this movie's plot, it would work fine as just a straight up thriller/horror movie. Any deeper context seems superfluous.

Saw it this morning, it really was like a long Twilight Zone episode which is exactly the type of horror I actually like. Absolutely loved it.

I loved it. My biggest complaint is that there's a moment that's important to the plot, and no one I was with could tell exactly what was supposed to have happened. Like, it was shot in a way that didn't make it clear what was supposed to have gone down. It really stood out, compared to how masterfully a lot of the rest was shot and framed and edited and acted.
I think there is plllennnnty of politics in the movie, but a lot of it is intra-black politics.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think there's a place for that, but I don't need it thrown at me constantly. The real world is awful enough, so like you said, escaping that reality isn't a bad thing. I'm going to watch this in a little while. As someone who didn't care for Get Out and thinks Peele is overrated, I'm guessing I'll walk away disappointed. From what I've read/heard, this is a movie you either really love or really hate. But, hey, it's fun to waste money.

Which part are you talking about here? I don't know how to spoiler text? It involves water. Hit the key next to the "P" on the keyboard, write "spoiler" then his the key next to that one at the start of the spoiler. Repeat at the end, but this time inside the box put a "/" before "spoiler."

Movie looks set to majorly overperform. Was projected to do $40-$50 million for the weekend, wound up doing almost $30 million just for Friday.

Saw the film. I was excited going in because previously Jordan Peele did something really different with 'Get Out'.
The film is fairly solid with enough meat in the story to sink your teeth into but doesn't hold your hand the whole way, The acting is great and I even liked the son's awkwardness.
The ending, however, is foreshadowed very early on in an "Oh I bet this is gonna happen' kind of way and is a minor let down because of how on the nose it is. The movie leaves a wide door for a sequel I would watch and I will put this happily in my horror collection when it drops.
Overall I gave it a 7.5/10

I liked it, but damn if I can’t figure out... {Spoiler}...what the hell the whole Hands Across America thing was. Like, what was the point of that being part of their grand plan on the surface? Obviously it was significant, because it’s what the movie’s final scene lingers on, but I don’t understand its significance or how it was the conclusion to the underground people’s murderous plot.

Overall I gave it a 7.5/10 I don't see where it leaves the door open for the sequel. With the exception of {Spoiler}The Tethered still holding hands across America. There's really nowhere else to go in terms of a sequel. Unless you're talking about Adelaide attempting to hide who she truly is?

Saw it yesterday, and I thought it was excellent with some great performances, but MAN is it weird. Peele clearly wants to make thinking persons’ scary movies, if nothing else.

Damn Lupita Nyogo, you scary.
Good movie. Really Twilight Zone-y which makes sense.
