Surprised no one has mentioned the Warrior. The guy was all about using the wrestling business to build his own brand. I always got the sense that much of Hogan's problem was insecurity, but Warrior was just a douche, and I like Warrior. I’ll never get the amount of delusion one has to have to create a wrestling school despite being an awful wrestler. Warrior University lol.

I think the difference is Warrior was around less and never gave a million interviews where he lies about easily checked facts abd invents stories to make him seem more important when there us absolutely no need. Warrior overrated the value of his brand, but he never claimed to slam the ten thousand pound Andre, or be in line to play bass for Metallica when there was no need. Come on, Hulk, you put the WWF on the map, appeared in a Rocky film and a decade later had a career revival as a heel, the lies are unnecessarily... But reality simply isn't enough.

At least Warrior had a major run in a major promotion so should qualify to help develop a star in his university. There are so many, and have been so many "fly by night" wrestling schools run by guys you would probably not ever hear of unless you live in the immediate area of the local indy promotion they headline.
As for the original question, I think Vince McMahon begins and ends the thread. An owner with a "kiss my ass" club on TV? And what if the employee refuses to do the angle on TV. He probably gets demoted or has to deal with Bob Holly, Bradshaw or Undertaker backstage.

While the question isn’t “biggest piece of shit in wrestling’s history?” One can’t deny that ego was a huge motivator to Fritz Von Erich. Fritz: LISTEN HERE. MY BOYS WERE UNCROWDED CHAMPIONS. I WAS THE UNCROWDED CHAMPION, GODDAMN IT! (Damn You, Lapsed Fan)

Hulk Hogan overall, but if we're doing an ego to level of success thing, yeah, I agree with Ki. If Low-Ki were 6'2" tall, he would have been a force throughout the 2000s, main eventing the major indies and the WWE alike, but the problem for Ki is, that's not the reality we live in. He's closer to 5'2" but still acts like he's some unstoppable legendary tough guy, when in reality he's the guy who'll kick and punch indie guys hard because he knows that usually he won't be given a beating in return because he's an indie name and a draw, whenever he's on a real show and tries that with someone willing to return the favour, it doesn't go well. I still feel that he was screwed over in his WWE run, he could have been Mr. Co-operative and it still would have ended badly because the fans chose him over management's choice, but boy, does he make it hard to feel sorry for him in any way, Low-Ki pisses me off. I became a huge fan when I first saw him in TNA, vs. AJ & Jerry Lynn. Like, damn, if he just swallow his damn pride, he would be up there with Joe, Styles & DBry.

Not as a total defense of the Inoki Jesus because it's still super nutty, but it's worth keeping in mind that in Japan, Christianity is treated with the same exotic nature as non-Abrahamic faiths are treated in America. It's a novelty, and Christian iconography will get used pretty much just because "it looks cool". I wouldn't be surprised if that's how Inoki looked at it and he didn't really understand the utter gravity of what he was implying with his crucifixion entrance.

I can see that, and I would give him a pass if they also didn’t carry him to the ring in a throne in other events lol. I think Inoki really sees himself as some sort of deity.

I can’t believe I forgot about this megalomaniac, Dusty f***ing Rhodes.
The fat man himself actually broke the fourth wall in the eighties during a promo claiming the dream doesn’t do jobs.
Tully Blanchard was banned from Crockett’s jet because he complained about Dusty always booking himself on top.
There’s also that rumor about him firing Babydoll because she was with Sam Houston instead of him.
When Dick Murdoch, his tag team partner, croaked, Dusty essentially blowed it off as a no big deal when it was announced in wcw.
Adrian Street claims that he was fired from Florida because he called Dusty fat in a promo and he got mad.
Colt Cabana once asked him for advice in developmental and the discussion turned to how great Cody was.

When it comes to the luchadoras section of this, would Sexy Star rank right up there? She refuses to lose cleanly, shoots in the ring, and thought she could be a boxer.

For what it’s worth, Konnan claims that she’s not the first female wrestler in Mexico to do that. Apparently there’s been a lot of incidents like that over the years.

Dusty was so jealous of Flair that he wanted Rick Steiner to squash him in five minutes at Starrcade. Luckily sanity prevailed.

I say this as a big Bret Hart fan but he had a bit of an ego too. The boys loved everything he did backstage with tears in there eyes. Common Bret ...

A bit of an ego is different to having the biggest ego, you need to rate yourself as a performer to get anywhere in wrestling. He's proud of his work, but he wasn't the guy constantly vacating titles, claiming to have been considered for mainstream rock groups, kicking people in the head because he's a warrior, running down his co-workers in interviews for not being 'rockstars' and working in slowmo rather than make them look good, or booking someone else's promotion into the ground to make his flabby ass look legendary.
