The movie “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gary Oldman.
In my teenage and college years, it was one of my favorite movies of all time. Sure, Keanu Reeves was horrible, but I thought it was so atmospheric, romantic, appealing to the senses, visually stunning, and unique.
I re-watched it for the first time in a long time with my boyfriend this past Halloween, and it slowly dawned on me that it’s simply not a very good movie. Dracula’s characterization is weird, the attempt to simultaneously make it just like the original novel and have it be its own original story with the love story came off as clumsy from a storytelling perspective and frequently leads to things not fitting the context, the romance makes no sense and has an eyebrow-raising subtext, I have no idea what Anthony Hopkins was going for in his role as Van Helsing with his goofy performance, I don’t get what the movie was trying to say thematically with the ending after all that had happened, and I just couldn’t get past Keanu’s acting anymore.

I was a big hockey fan until about two years ago; All of a sudden I started finding it incredibly dull. Like, I can't even watch ten minutes of a regular season game now without feeling like time is at a standstill. Honestly, I think I feel this way about the actual wrestling in today's pro wrestling programming. I think it's just me though, it's not like the actual wrestling has gotten worse (actually you could almost certainly say it's gotten better overall, with more ways for underground independent talent to show what they got, and a higher percentage of good matches on WWE programming that there was even 5 years ago) but it's somehow harder for myself to stay attentive through an actual match. There's only so many ways you can see someone punch, flip, body slam, or even perform some ultra-innovative suplex type move before it all feels something seen multiple times before.

I feel you on that. I think a big part of it, and I only watch WWE stuff so I can't comment on anything else, is their insistance on dragging matches out so much longer than they need to. Why does Balor vs. Corbin part 215 have to last through 2 commercial breaks, and then go for 10 minutes on PPV? I wish they'd do more quick sprint matches where people get their shit in and wrap it up in a timely manner.

Ricky Gervais. Used to love the guy and everything he did. Now I think he's a total tosser. Hideo Kojima. Worshipped him. After Metal Gear Solid 4 and 5 though I think he sucks. To be fair I think Gervais has changed not me. MGS 1 and 3 are still two of my favourites and parts of 2 are still great but after IV and V parts of the dust three have been re-evaluated such as Kojima's disgusting portrayal of women. The guy is a sick perv. Speaking of sick pervs I used to hate Tarantino's Death Proof and Kill Bill Volume 2, but on a rewatch of his works I enjoyed Death Proof and loved Kill Bill 2. Conversely I found Natural Born Killers (written by him) to be an ugly unwatchable mess of a movie. Tarantino might actually agree with you about Natural Born Killers lol

I totally lost interest in actually watching football (soccer) about ten years ago, after the began working in a sports bar. Once being run off my feet serving crowds of drunken fans who'd get way too troublesome when their team lost became the only way I experienced it, I lost my passion completely. Even five years removed from working there I still can only work up the effort to watch the two-minute highlight reels on the Sky Sports Football app.

The film does have its merits, mainly visually, but I agree with your points and it ends up unsatisfying. Dracula and the romance does come across as weirdly schizophrenic, as he alternates between lovelorn big eyed lonely soul and gleeful sadistic baby-killing maniac at the flip of a coin. Mina comes across as being either phenomenally forgiving or amazingly selfish, or both. It does seem to be the result of Coppola trying to bolt a romance onto the original novel which doesn't have that.

The Beatles and the Beach Boys. As a teenager, I wrote the Beatles off as boring and corny, and the Beach Boys as a cheesy 60's band.
Now they're two of my all-time favorite bands.

"In popular culture" sections in Wikipedia. No, really. It took me less than a year to go from wanting them included and expanded to wanting them reduced or removed.

Ali G, or Sacha Baron Cohen in general.
I used to think he was an immature poser, but he got political satire down to a T, and is probably the best comedy actor working today.

Not now, but about 8/9 years ago I turned around on baseball. I thought it was just a boring and idiotic sport that only Americans could enjoy. Then I gave the baseball anime Major a chance. I got hooked to it and figured out most of the rules for baseball. Turns out, that was why I didn't get it: I didn't understand the rules. Once I did, I started to like it. Then I started to like it so much, I started to love it! Joined a Sunday league team and everything. It is now my favorite sport.

"In popular culture" sections in Wikipedia. No, really. It took me less than a year to go from wanting them included and expanded to wanting them reduced or removed. I'll go one further and say he's neck and neck with Gary Oldman for the greatest character actor alive. Oldman is the GOAT, but Sasha could rival him someday. The dude becomes his characters. He's a rare case of a guy who has multiple recurring characters that I am able to judge completely separately because honestly, I kinda forget they're the same guy. And for a man of his stature and unique looks, he does an incredible job of realistically disguising himself. I haven't bothered to see "Bohemian Rhapsody" because frankly, I lost interest when I heard Sasha wasn't involved anymore. I was so ready to see that kind of dedication to character brought into a role so dramatic. Plus he would have NAILED the look and mannerisms to an eerie degree. A few of my own: Like a few of you have said, my views on religion turned as well, but in the opposite direction. I believed when I was younger, but I started just seeing things differently due to various inturnal and external events. I never got militant or anything like that though, other people's beliefs are every bit as valid as my own. Honestly, I prefer not even discussing religion outside of maybe a few very close friends and family. Baseball was another answer I had in common with another poster, but I've more gone 360 on it. I loved it when I was a kid, but was oddly upset over the 1994 players strike. It honestly turned me against the sport for a long time. I quit playing and watching when I was 10. In my mid-20s though, I started to drift back to it, and became a fan again slowly. I don't watch a lot of games anymore due to my hectic schedule, but I get alerts about Mets games on my phone and I keep an eye on the league online. RUSH! Somebody said that, and it could not be truer for me. I've been a drummer my entire life, my dad had also played since he was a teenager. I always appreciated Neil Peart, but I couldn't get into the music AT ALL. Geddy grated on my nerves something fierce, and I didn't take up guitar until 12, so I didn't pay Alex any real attention. My dad was a big fan though, so I always got to see the live DVDs and stuff when they came out, so I was always sure to pop in for Neil's solo. Right after the R30 DVD came out, I was going to house sit for my grandma for a few days. I borrowed the DVD from him so I could dissect the solo, since I was going to be in a house in the middle of nowhere for like 4 days, I had time to practice. I got out there and immediately started coming down with some kind of awful cold-like sickness. I mostly slept during my days there, and just laid on the couch when I was awake. The entire 4 days, that DVD was in the player, playing on a loop, so every time I would wake up for a little bit, I would wind up watching a little bit more of the DVD, because I was too sick to bother even reaching for the remote to turn it off. By the time I left and felt better, Rush was on their way to becoming one of my favorite bands. I am extremely thankful I got to see them live twice before they retired.

I remember I used to put down people who were into fitness, probably because I was just jealous. After a while, I got to be more respectful towards fit people. I mean I was never a thin guy nor was I ever in that great of shape, but I guess I was often jealous, which made me into one of those "fitness shamers." They do exist and I got to learn a bit after I started hitting the gym more. I don't knock them at all. I don't know if a factor of that is that I like looking at fit women (and that also includes some muscular women, well muscular to a point), but I don't have any issue with fitness types as a lot of them are trying to help people get into better shape.

Vince Russo.
I used to hate him just like 99% of the internet it seems but after watching his podcast I think he's massively misunderstood. Do I agree with everything he says? No but I don't think he's a racist homophobe whatever that everyone has him down as.
He's also made me realise how pathetic most wrestling journalists are.

Besides the obvious ones, like the WWE and football (two things I used to love before I got tired of them being on their bullshit constantly), the one that I always use is Nicholas Cage. I used to think he was a decent actor, but as he made more generic (Lord Of War) and weird (The Wicker Man) stuff, I started to think his acting was shitty, and he was quickly approaching John Travolta territory. Then I saw Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans, and I was absolutely sucked in to his acting choices. It may have been Herzog's acting bringing out an amazing energy out of him, but I began to see his unhinged approach in a whole new light after that movie.

I used to think he was a ridiculous gimmick, but now I absolutely adore the guy. He’s genuine as hell and a good dude and I’m a legit superfan.
