Talents who were either "home grown" or became major stars in America via WCW platform:
Sting Goldberg The Giant Lex Luger DDP Harlem Heat Steiner Brothers Vader Chris Benoit Eddie Guerrero Chris Jericho Dean Malenko Cactus Jack Brian Pillman Rey Mysterio Ron Simmons Johnny B. Badd Dustin Rhodes
Considering they were only around for 12 years or so, that's not a bad list.
Why do some people say that WCW wasn't able to create stars of their own?

And, not to take away from your main point, but, for example, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash became bigger stars in WCW than in The WWF.

Sting was already a star in the USA,cause of his run in Mid South/UWF.

I’d add Sid Vicious to that list. The Skyscrapers were a big deal because because of him. He had a ton of buzz because of his look and his powerbomb. He would go on to be a huge star too.

1. Was Sting really a nationally recognized wrestler in his UWF days?
2. I disagree on Dustin. He was plenty over in WCW before he became Goldust, though he reached greater heights in WWE.
3. Good call on Sid. Somehow forgot about him.

Shouldn't they have had to have trained in the Power Plant from Day One of their career to be considered Home Grown?

WCW gave a whole slew of guys an opportunity to showcase their talents that would never have gotten that opportunity elsewhere, Vince saw Jericho as only fit to play The Goon character prior to his WCW run for cripes sake, but people are more than willing to search for reasons as to why the success they had there didn't count because people still want to buy into the WWF/E's narrative that their success was built on stealing WWF talent and guys that Paul Heyman 'discovered', that had worked on WCW events prior to that.

Shouldn't they have had to have trained in the Power Plant from Day One of their career to be considered Home Grown? Possibly, but my list is not just home grown talents, but talents who rose to stardom in the USA during their time in WCW.

Iffy. It's true they did have a national stage for the first time in WCW, but it lasted less than a year before they moved on to WWF for a much more substantial run.

Most people hate on him, and rightfully so, but Marcus Bagwell should be mentioned.

Not calling you a liar or anything but I personally never heard anyone say WCW couldn’t create stars. They’d be way off if so.

The only time I've ever heard that particular comment was in reference to the years post 97. It wasn't so much that they didn't create stars, it was just that they didn't use the talent that they had to push them forward and make the main event a little more exciting. Instead we got a continuation of the NWO and then the NWO civil war, and then the NWO again.

Not Dustin Rhodes. Hes a homegrown wwe guy, nobody cared about The Natural days. To be fair, Dustin did have some great matches during his time down south.

Do Road Warriors qualify for such thing? Truth be told they wrestled longer in WWE than in WCW and were probably at the peak of their popularity as LOD but they indeed started in WCW.

Not calling you a liar or anything but I personally never heard anyone say WCW couldn’t create stars. They’d be way off if so. It was a criticism during The Monday Night Wars, because a lot of their top talent had been stars in The WWF. Of course, that's how Vince McMahon Jr. did business, so it's not much of a criticism in my book.

1. Was Sting really a nationally recognized wrestler in his UWF days? He was getting plenty of coverage in the various wrestling mags during his UWF run. So I would say yes.

Not Dustin Rhodes. Hes a homegrown wwe guy, nobody cared about The Natural days. Why must you say such hurtful things? The only time I've ever heard that particular comment was in reference to the years post 97. It wasn't so much that they didn't create stars, it was just that they didn't use the talent that they had to push them forward and make the main event a little more exciting. Instead we got a continuation of the NWO and then the NWO civil war, and then the NWO again. This. WCW was great at giving guys a platform, but there was a glass ceiling to it. The fans saw guys like Jericho or Rey as stars, where as WCW themselves did not or it took a very long time to convince them. The same way someone like Cesaro is in WWE today.
