I saw this at the 4pm showing yesterday at my local theater and my grandfather passed away this morning. I wish I was joking.

So I just caught a noon matinee showing. My opinions on it are pretty mixed. Heavy spoilers ahead, un-spoil at your own risk - {Spoiler}{Spoiler}{Spoiler}For better or worse, this felt very much like an 80's movie. But not like Ghostbusters 80's, more like Goonies 80's. I don't know if it's because of the mostly child cast, or because the tone was much less jokey then the original movie. The best positive I can give it is that it mostly avoids the over-the-top wacky slapstick that dragged down the 2016 movie (well, at least until we get to Walmart). It let the comedy develop organically and didn't come from funny faces and gross-out moments. That said the movie was very slow moving. Every time it felt like something was happening to kickstart he plot, the very next scene slowed it down again. Honestly there was no reason this needed to be two plus hours as a decent editor could've cut out a good half hour from this and movie would've moved at a much better pace. Paul Rudd's character alone, while fun, was kinda pointless and only seemed to really exist because they needed a Keymaster at the end. The acting was fun. Like I said, Paul Rudd's character was great, if not really necessary. Celeste O'Connor did a great job imitating Zendaya from the Spider-Man movies. McKenna Grace was excellent and did an amazing job carrying the thing. The ending was... awkward. It felt like it was trying to tie up every single emotional beat the movie had set up to that point all at the same time, but it just all came to together... awkwardly. The original Ghostbusters showing up was kinda cool, but again, they felt like they were from a completely different movie and it was just more awkwardness. The only thing that would've made it even more awkward is if the 2016 Ghostbusters somehow showed up. The mid/post-credit scenes were pretty unnecessary. The second one I can kinda forgive because it felt like it was setting up a sequel and gave us more Annie Potts, which is never a bad thing. The first one though just seemed to exist so the director could say "yes, Venkman and Dana wound up together because that's my head canon". It wasn't particularly funny (honestly, Bill Murray seemed to be holding back in all his appearances) and added nothing to the story. I kinda kept waiting for a grown-up Oscar to show up to and reveal he's been working as a Ghostbuster on the down-low, at least that would've felt like a real development. Over-all, the movie had a lot of heart and was a definite step up on 2016 Ghostbusters (which I also enjoyed over-all), but the results were mixed and felt more like a tribute to the 80's movie then a continuation of it. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Also, why did Ivo Shandor bother with the building in NYC when he could've just summoned Gozer to middle-of-nowhere Oklahoma in the first place and not be bothered by anybody?

Just got back from it, and I really liked it. {Spoiler}- "You didn't hit it, you destroyed it. It doesn't exist anymore!" Don't know why, but that might have been the funniest line in the movie.
- It was obvious Muncher was gonna be their Slimer, outside of being the first ghost they bust. He was just eating, he wasn't hurting anybody. Like Slimer he was a little mischievous, but his primary goal was to eat, it wasn't to hurt anybody. Also the Aztec Death Whistle is supposed to ward off evil spirits, but it just annoyed Muncher.
- There was applause when the OG crew showed up at the end.
- "I miss you, old friend." That was not Ernie Hudson acting, that was his real feelings coming out.
- I liked the new Busters crew. Would have been so easy for one of them to be annoying, but they all had good chemistry with each other, and distinct characters. Which that last part was sorely lacking in 2016, they all pretty much wanted to be the Venkman.

Got misty eyed there at the end. Thought it was cool.

I thought it was a fine sequel. all the young actors did really well - but the lead girl in this movie was just fantastic.

Loved it so much. It hits the Karate Kid standard of being a perfect homage of the original while continuing forward. I’d happily watch more content of the same cast. Phoebe was phenomenal, and I never thought I’d like a character named Podcast.

He was about 15 days away from turning 99 so while this wasn't completely unexpected it was still very sudden. I just saw him about a week ago and he was fine and I had just gotten a call that he was doing okay the day before. He went to sleep Thursday night and never woke up.

My grandfather passed under similar circumstances in 2006, though he was considerably younger so it was very unexpected. The board has your back if you need us.

Actually $6m less than the 2016 movie, but as it was produced at half the cost this is a massive success.

I really enjoyed it. Loved all the new characters. Like that they didn’t go all out making it a huge budget SFX-fest. It was a small, personal movie that felt like it got made because the writer had something to say.
There are a few things that, upon further reflection, I am kind of iffy about. But I’m glad it got made.

Nipped over to Chris Stuckmans's channel and found he reviewed the movie, but fans are calling him out on what his sponsor is...a Ghostbusters mobile game, which erodes his impartiality.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the franchise, but I did like it. I went to see this because my daughter REALLY likes the originals. I thought it was a really fun movie. It was a tad slow at the beginning, but it did pick up and was good.

I enjoyed the originals as a kid but I don't think I ever held the movies as dear as some other folks in my generation. That said, I thought it was a really fun movie and the lead kid actress was GREAT. I don't have kids, but if I did, I could totally see why people get emotional over being able to share a movie like that with their kiddos.

Poor Mike is beyond broken. Finally, they're officially out-of-touch with popular consensus. Karma for how they trashed Star Trek: First Contact

I want to see this, but don't want to go to a theater. Even if I bit the bullet and went to a 5 dollar matinee, its during times I work and I get off at 8pm. My next days off are the 4 day weekend and the theater will be crowded.
This is why I like streaming. I appreciate the experience of a movie theater, but I don't have time and money to make an "outing" of every movie I want to watch.

Poor Mike is beyond broken. Great video. As usual, the gang makes some good points. They really don't and are just being contrarian because it's their brand. They hated the idea of this when it was announced so their consistent with their bias, but that doesn't mean they're right or have a strong argument. Like I said, they're out of touch with the popular consensus, which is that a lot more people enjoy this. They have become the very same critics they despise.

The popular consensus on this (here, online, yt, reviews) seems to be “Its alright”. Like, not dog shit but not great, I dunno, I haven’t watched it yet lol
