Yea, it felt like the Ghostbusters version of The Force Awakens and I loved The Force Awakens. What they did at the end of the flick could have turned out really bad, but it ended up being really well done and extremely touching. Super fun flick.

Can't see much contrarian in the RLM video. They open it with Jay calling the horrifying ending cameo from a mile away and the main points are all talking about how there's probably an interesting film with good actors bogged down under the kind of inevitable endless noistalgia that serves nothing and f***s up the last third of the film.

Great video. As usual, the gang makes some good points. They really don't and are just being contrarian because it's their brand. They hated the idea of this when it was announced so their consistent with their bias, but that doesn't mean they're right or have a strong argument. Like I said, they're out of touch with the popular consensus, which is that a lot more people enjoy this. They have become the very same critics they despise. They really do and as usual are considering a film on its merits more than other youtube film reviewers. If you like or others like it, that's fine. But don't hate on they because you disagree with their viewpoint and apprentely disliked them since that "Star Trek:First Contact" review. They always make people think with their reviews and this was no different. They make great points about nostagila and it's use in movies here. They are highly enjoyable and your agenda showed the moment you commented the video.

Yes, because preferring artistry and craft of film making is less important than fan service and ringing every cent of out said "fans". But I'll let Roger Ebert put it better than I ever could: And now let's make this less about RLM and fans and more about the actual movie.

Loved it. Felt like the Goonies mashed with Ghostbusters and that's no bad thing.

Cinematic Excrement said the same thing as RLM I feel... But I actually respect his opinion because he didn't take an entire hour of my life to give it.

I liked it. I get the complaints somw have, but eh liked it anyway.
I watched some of the Red Letter Media review of it, but while those guys are always entertaining it's rare they like anything haha.

Like I said, they're out of touch with the popular consensus, which is that a lot more people enjoy this. They have become the very same critics they despise. The popular consensus on this (here, online, yt, reviews) seems to be “Its alright”. Like, not dog shit but not great, I dunno, I haven’t watched it yet lol It takes a while to build but, for me the atmosphere was really good. {Spoiler} The mini puffs scene could have been a bit shorter but it was harmless, I think the only drawback is the movie doesn't hit its stride until a little after half the film.
I dig the new busters, if a sequel (And personally I think it warrants a sequel) happens they can grow into their new roles. I think it was a smart play letting us get to know the new people and waiting for the OG busters to show up. Which when that happens made me just giddy. You can tell, unlike the film that will not be named, all of them seem to have missed the feeling. Peter with the few lines he has still got a chuckle from me. [/spoiler

It was a fun family movie. Not a bad way to spend some time at the theater.
Nostalgia, schmaltz, some good laughs, good special effects. (honestly this last one is just minimum competence these days) Paul Rudd is charming as always, the child actors weren’t too annoying (Podcast came verrry close)
The biggest knock I can think of is you won’t find the edge, wit, and dry humor the original had.
Don’t come looking for surprises. It’s basically exactly what you expect, but at least done well.

My one complaint was the first half was kind of slow, but once the story took off, it was great. I absolutely loved the ending.

RLM are fine for the most part, except for Mike's dislike of Ghostbusters 2 which he has never IMO satisfactorily justified.

I feel like it could have obviously been better, or been worse, but I'm kind of left hoping this does well enough to get a sequel, since I feel like I'd like to see some of the characters fleshed out more.

Its really good apart from the start where everyone thinks the Ghostbusters are frauds despite what happened in the first film
