Like if you live in the old Stampede area and non-fans still know who Stu Hart is or something. So let's avoid saying guys like Hulk Hogan since just about anyone (at least over a certain age) knows who he is.
I live in the Greater Boston area and I'm drawing a blank. I think we were a big enough WWWF/WWF/WWE location for no local legends outside of their umbrella to sprout up and be widely known.
Another Canadian one though I heard Bret Hart (who was huge don't got me wrong, but nowhere near as widely known universally as Hulk Hogan) is still known by just about anyone in Canada. I'm always tempted to bring him up in casual conversation when I visit Canada, but am afraid of getting blank stairs.

I would imagine Ric Flair, Jerry Lawler & Terry/Dory Funk are household names to just about everyone in Charlotte, Memphis & Texas respectively but I’m not local so correct me if I’m wrong.
Here in the UK Big Daddy & Giant Haystacks are the 2 names EVERYONE brings up when you mention the word ‘wrestling’ to this day even though it’s been over 30 years since the height of their fame. Too obvious?

If your talking about WI in general most people of a certain age remember The Crusher and Baron Von Rashke. As for Madison itself "Sailor" Art Thomas was from here and occasionally is still talked about.

My uncles had a Von Erich board game, so I'm going to hazard a guess they'd know who they were.

All the old timers knew him.

All the old timers knew him. Good point! Yeah Killer Kowalski is a great one that I totally blanked out. He used to have the wrestling school in Malden until he passed away. I was a teenager and I remember my friends would talk about wanting to get trained there if they had whatever the price was. I think it was laughably cheap compared to what some scammers/no name trainers charge now. Something like $300, but I might be way off and it could have been $1,000 or something. This would have been the late 1990s/early 2000s.

People in the UK over the age of 45 will know the names Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, Kendo Nagasaki and Mick McManus.

My uncles had a Von Erich board game, so I'm going to hazard a guess they'd know who they were. What was the game? Who can snort the most cocaine? Or who can kill the most cats. In mid MS it would be JYD Lawler Pascagoula Plowboy Tiny Frazier And with fans over the age of 50 Frank Dalton

Jim Cornette is pretty close to a household name in Louisville. Not EVERYONE knows him, but most people who grew up here would.

I think a lot of the older people in St. Louis would know who Lou Thesz, Dick the Bruiser and Harley Race were.

With the internet/social media being so big nowadays I think pretty much anyone who had a long run in WWF or WCW would be well known even to non wrestling fans. For example, a death is posted on MSN or TMZ of a long term WWF or WCW wrestler and non wrestling fans will have known who the person is from something that was posted sometime on the internet.

No one under 40 in Dallas knows who the Von Erichs are. When they were done, they were done.

Here in West Virginia, if they were even somewhat relevant between 1985-2000, they'd might as well be gods. I'm fairly confident I could walk up to someone in a gas station and say "do you know who D'Lo Brown is," and they would.
