AEW's the first major wrestling company in American to sign a trans wrestler (Nyla Rose) and that's some good shit quite frankly. Absolutely. Anyone got any recommendations for good Nyla Rose matches to check out to get a feel for her? Her vs. Takumi Iroha from 8/5/18 KFC HALL - Ryogoku, Japan, Alex Lee and Nyla Rose vs. Cassandra Miyagi and Heidi Katrina from August 19 I think. Given that ASUKA is freelance (I think still) and really amazing, they could bring her in for shows and be really be doing good showing off great trans wrestlers.

Guessing a name chance would be required for that, but otherwise, super.

If anybody's interested in Yuka (this is from DDT's official channel), this tag match is a pretty good showcase. Yuka is the girl in orange pants with the flying magical girl gimmick. www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2qtSODMqvI&t=8s

I've never seen Nyla Rose work before, but just looking at Google image pictures, she looks like a world class shitf***er, so I'm ready to see what she can bring to the table.

Yeah, like, I'd like to see AEW get a quality big man or two, but charisma's not the first thing I'd think of if I was trying to pinpoint a lacking part of the roster right now.

The press conference didn't have any huge, earth shattering surprises in it, but I think I like it better that way, because its surprises were genuinely pretty impossible to expect. The only new announcement that was in any way "Oh wow, that's big" was Aja Kong and she's likely not a full timer here. Looking up and down the scene for talent and making big deals out of people who I haven't really seen before is a great bet here for giving this company more identity and a stronger roster than if they pulled a WWE and just went for everyone with buzz in a steady list of companies first and foremost.

Seeing Kenny Omega officially a part of this made the whole thing feel pretty real finally. I'm really stoked for this.

Prior to Kenny officially getting on-board (and being an EVP), it was still theoretically possible for this all to be a Cody/Bucks grift designed to get them flush with cash and living the high life before they retire. But with Omega here at possibly the height of his drawing ability makes it seem like they are going to actually make a wrestling promotion.

The roster really is being built on the whos who of indies wrestling that not in the WWE or ROH. Kenny Omega was like when WWE signing AJ Style a couple years ago. Sure he didn't have the TNA run that made him more of a US house name, but he was the hottest free agent in wrestling and a lot of people who follow wrestling beyond the WWE knows who he is and is why he had offers to go wherever he wanted. WWE and NJPW both had offers as well. This company is really turning into a wrestling fans dream. I like the partnerships they started with other companies. The deal with China is going to be one of the things that will make them stand out because it something different and something we likely never seen before. It's going to be a hypbrd company that going to have a little bite of everything, so no matter what your a fan of, I think there is going to be something for you.

Oh absolutely, but I think it's so much more interesting to be showcasing people we've never seen or heard of and lifting up people from the smaller indies who don't necessarily have the buzz or social media clout that make them dead obvious picks. The variety aspect is great and I want so badly for a show that can offer up the spectrum of wrestling without all the baggage and issues of WWE, but a big part of that for me is seeing new faces and being shown lots of people from up and down the scene. Kenny was an expected signing and I'm excited to see him, but I know his work, you get me?

Also the only thing missing was You think Dean could grow a Mullet in under a week? I saw this picture and thought, man, I know Luger did this but I didn’t realize Hacksaw cleaned up and did the same thing. Now you’ve made me realize my mistake and I don’t know how to feel.

Saw the press conference in full today. Really good stuff. They didn't rely on any surprises (if you didn't count Kenny as a surprise I guess) and did a good job of highlighting the divisions and possible rivalries to come. What I liked most about this press conference is that AEW was presented as an alternative to the WWE but not the antithesis. The conference was only slightly north of PG, no foul language, no T&A, no hints that the promotion will be any more violent than WWE...probably NJPW or NXT main events at best. And these are all good things. They still had much of the same presentation that WWE employs such as social media emphasis, pop music entrances, and flashy characters. But it's all toned down to a more tolerable level. I also appreciate the seamless integration of wrestlers with diverse backgrounds as well. AEW is bringing in everyone regardless of race, gender (and gender identity), and sexual orientation and it's very commendable that they're not making a big deal about it. In fairness WWE has done a good job of not pushing it down our throats either and letting things just happen. But I'm glad AEW is following suit.
Overall, I want the AEW product to be much more in-ring focused than the WWE, but if they've got the money to polish it up and make their wrestlers look like superstars so they could potentially accept entertainment offers in the future I'm all for it.
