What?
No, really, what?
It's clear to me Joey's making a comment on how the landscape has changed and now more and more talents are leaving the WWE system for greener pastures. I really can't see how anyone could get a snide tone out of this or some weird anti-WWE guys agenda.
It was in essence a polite way of saying "People are unhappy in WWE because it's a mess and are now seeking jobs elsewhere, rather than how it used to be of us going to WWE for the hope of a career job".

Just my opinion, but as an extra, he went out of his way to ruin a spot of Mark Henry slamming Sheamus through a barricade by giving a goofy reaction so I can see him being perceived as a jerk. It's amazing what some of you will find to complain about. I watched the clip, and 2 things popped out about it: 1. I would have never even noticed that Joey Ryan was in the crowd if I didn't know that I was looking for Joey Ryan, that's how little focus is on him. 2. His reaction is in no way distracting or takes away from the moment. In fact, it looks like exactly the kind of reaction that WWE looks for in the crowd to get tight shots of in those moments. He probably gave them exactly what they wanted. If that wasn't Joey Ryan, nobody would have anything to say about that. They stopped using him after that and I think they never asked him to come back after the stupid home alone face.

Indies are great until you get hurt. Having a downside guarantee and Vince to pay for your surgery isn't something to forget about.

Agreed, I had never seen it before and was expecting it to be distractingly OTT based on how it was described. I don’t have an opinion on Joey rayan really, but I don’t think he did anything particularly wrong there, myself.

After that, his profile was big enough that he didn't really need to take extra work. What are your sources that they "never asked him back" because of that barely noticeable reaction?

I had to watch the clip. As others said, I wouldn't have noticed the guy unless someone mentioned him, and his reaction looks exactly like wwe would have wanted. He's marking out, looking shocked, looking like he's loving what happened....don't Get the issue lol

Take it for what it’s worth, but in reading up on a separate wrestling beef on Twitter, I stumbled on the lady that accused Michael Elgin and his boys, and she’s been saying there’s some nasty Joey Ryan stuff out there that people don’t know.
How credible that is, I don’t know. I just saw it and knew we had an open Joey Ryan thread and thought it was worth sharing.

I believe her. 100%.

Well when you go around backstage trying to get everyone to shake hands with beef, you're going to get treated like crap.

No, it elevated his career. He never stopped working after TNA. He went right back to PWG, went right back to booking/wrestling for CWFH, worked other Indies, etc. He wouldn't have been flown over to Japan to work with Danshoku Dino in the first place to do the original Dick Spot if he wasn't a well known name. There comes a point where you don't need to take an extra spot with WWE. Where if they call you, you can say "no I'm good. Why don't you call this guy? He could use a pay day." I.E. guys that Joey trained or worked with that hadn't really broken out of their regional scene yet.

Once the viral thing happened he admitted that he was making better money that underneath wwe guys but before that it was tough.

Yeah... AEW isn’t an indie in my book. The money they’re handing out is insane.

Also, for what it's worth(and to prove I'm not just a Joey fanboy, lol), Lance Storm called him out for "painting with an awfully wide brush" and Joey did backtrack a bit, apologizing for generalizing.
