Ryder's not great in the ring, but his momentum did get killed by being Cena's fall guy in the "Embrace The Hate" storyline with Kane, and should at least be in the U.S./IC Title picture every once in a while.

Has Orton ever worked a program with Ryder? If he wanted to he could probably make it happen.

People's personal contempt for Ryder baffles me almost as much as their personal contempt for Ziggler. Ziggler's kind of a douche, so I get the contempt for him. Never got that from Ryder, though. Not in recent years, anyway. There was that period for close to three years directly after his 2011 push died in the butt where he was just super salty about everything, peaking with the infamous “PUSH ME” big red button trunks. Everyone was like “We know you got done wrong, but for f***s sake SHUT UP”.

I feel like Ryder is one good showing from getting the current Kofi treatment. Let dude show what he can do against a star, and let the crowd love him again. We've seen that it's not difficult. Kofi has been part of one of the company's main acts for the last 4 years. The rub is he hasn't been a singles star, and that's why people are behind his sudden quest. But he's still been one of the biggest babyface stars of the last couple years with Big E and Xavier. It's not like it's some "Hey, remember the 'Jamaican Me Crazy!' guy that used to trade the IC belt with Ziggler? Let's give him a shot and see what happens!!", which is absolutely how it would come off if Ryder is all of a sudden out there challenging Bryan.

I think most are missing the cryptic advice Orton is giving here.

He's a solid, fun worker.
The most impressive thing about Ryder, though, is his ability to maintain a pretty high level of popularity despite the dog-shittiest of dog shit booking or just not being used at all for extended periods of time.

Ryder is not an “elite” worker... neither is Orton for that matter. Both are very basic at what they do in the ring. It pales in comparison to the high energy stuff we see from the likes of Gargano, Ricochet etc. But he does deserve more than he’s given. Hawkins and Ryder could be like Edge and Christian if they really pushed them. They’ve got that relatable goofiness about them, especially if you watch their action figure YouTube show. Give them some comedy backstage segments and let them go at it. Ryder was shafted twice by WWE in his career. The obvious one was back in 2011 but then when he won the IC Title at WM and he got that reaction... man, the crowd didn’t care that he was a jobber again before that cause he was OVER. You gotta start pushing the wrestlers the crowd actually likes. Maybe then the crowd wouldn’t be so dead every week. I think Orton can be elite

In his most recent opportunity to leave a good impression the audience he botched spelling his own name. I thought that made it seem even more real. Instead of delivering a stilted, scripted line, he was so overcome with frustration and it came out. Beautiful accident.

Would it have been any less subtle if Orton attached the Cody GIF to his reply?

I can honestly see Randy going to AEW. Not because of any sort of contempt or bitterness towards WWE but because he would want to do something different for a few years before coming back to the WWE to retire.

Ryder showed initiative and got himself over, using his own money to lay the groundwork for the WWE's social media presence and ultimately, they punished him for it. They exposed what he can't do on live TV just because some fans liked him. When the WWE want a guy over, they can cover their weaknesses to an almost insane degree, but not Ryder, they all but hung him outside the Stamford offices in a gibbet to show lower card workers not to get ideas.
That said, he's a tag guy at best, and that is fine. I don't think anyone really wanted more than that from him, they just wanted the guy to be used on TV, which they got in that spiteful monkeypaw way. They've hung onto him for all this time to make sure his shine is gone by the time he's finally cut and no-one else can benefit from his social media savvy.

Ryder is a good seller and a very good babyface character. He isn’t terribly crisp in the ring, but there are many worse out there. Randy & Zack could work a great program with Orton as the ruthless heel torturing the babyface Ryder.

Those things aren't unrelated though... I think a big part of his popularity has always been that he's had a raw deal from the powers that be. If he suddenly started to be pushed consistently, people would lose interest pretty quickly.

I think Orton can be elite Wasn't the talk within the last 2 weeks or so that Orton was going to be elite, along with the Usos?
