Like many of you, I'm a bit underwhelmed at the slow progress of the Rousey/Lynch/Charlotte program and it got me thinking... They got too much f***ing time to fill between someone winning the Royal Rumble and the match they have at WrestleMania. Lynch won the Royal Rumble on January 27, for a match she was scheduled to have on April 7 (storyline going on as it does, she has to win her way back in). TEN WEEKS. Five hours of broadcast TV a week to a sell a match that was arguably sold by ONE PROMO on day one, the night after the Rumble, if not weeks beforehand with the Survivor Series build. So, for the sake of their end goals, mostly around the addition of Charlotte to the match, and to fill the remaining nine and a half weeks, they throw the whole playbook at it. McMahon involvement, worked injuries, worked suspensions, indy police, and, as of tonight, apparently another heel turn. The tasty cake was made, and then it starts collapsing on itself because of all the toppings added to it.
I think this has always been a bit of a problem in the "stars on TV every week/monthly PPVs" era. Like, how many Rumble winner builds have they gotten just right in the last, what, 25 years since the Rumble winner has gotten the WM title shot? Batista in 2005? Austin in 1997 and 1998? There's almost always been SOME weirdness along the way for the sake of "storytelling", filling time or other chaos. I mean, shit, Lynch is like the fifth person to have to try and win back their title shot. Rock had to do it in 2000, Triple H in 2002, Mysterio in 2006 and Cena in 2008 (who used his title shot early and had to win a new one). We've had things like Rock and Austin arguing about Debra being Rock's manager, Stephanie trying to trick Triple H into believing she was pregnant, Orton bullshitting an IED diagnosis to explain why he kicked Vince McMahon in the head and laid out Stephanie, all the weirdness with Batista in 2014, all the weirdness with Reigns in 2015, all the proper weirdness with Orton and Wyatt in 2017, and the non-build with Nakamura last year that was basically him saying "I'm going to beat you" for two months. Spoiler, he didn't.
But yeah, this writing format as it stands can't maintain first night high momentum for two and a half months, so either learn to write better or shorten the timeframe.

First off, eliminate the womenās Rumble. Thereās barely enough women to sustain it and 99.9% of the people in it arenāt believable to even win the thing. Itās a problem in the menās too but at least, and itās asking a lot these days, you have 4-6 men who could possibly win.
Next, ditch that stupid f***ing winner goes on to WrestleMania shit. Thereās waaaaaaaay too much TV, like your whole OP said. So everything sits in a holding pattern for two months. When you have like 50 hours of TV between the two to fill, somehow you can get to a main event.

If they were better at writing then they wouldn't need to rely on the same people pushing their feud every single week. Instead they could use that time to alternate focus to other feuds. It doesn't mean they'd have to alternate between talent appearing on a weekly basis. But it seems like they have the same guys wrestling in the same matches ad nauseum at weeks on end. Then along with that you've got the same feuds being highlighted and thus weakened due to forced narrative decisions taking the focus away from the main point of the feud in their attempt to keep the audience engaged and/or throwing a curve ball to freshen things up.
It's less about having too much time, and more that they've just lost whatever magic they used to have to develop compelling television. None of these stories ever feel organic, they're so up their asses trying to swerve everyone and throw as many names into the pot, nothing makes any sense when you try to break it all down. You may not always see it on the surface, but your brain notices.

No, they donāt need TWO f***ING PPVāS in between. They need to hit the ground running the night after the Rumble, and promote the hell out of their main event.

Just think, they started building to Seth vs. HHH at WM 33 in AUGUST 2016.

I think they could get away with one, many didn't have an issue with one. But they surely can afford to move WrestleMania forward two or three weeks into mid-late March.

Remove the February PPV and hold the March PPV first weekend of the month, which makes for a good halfway point between the Rumble and WM.

We don't need both the Elimination Chamber and Fastlane in between the two. Qe should have 1 event to end storylines and setup more for WM but having two doesn't work well. I say we keep Elimination Chamber and instead of making it seem like some big huge event use it as a buffer event. Make it known that this is there as a small pit stop before WM. The chamber matches only need to be there for the winners to face off against the champions at WM. Don't put the champion in a chamber unless for extreme reasons (like Bryan's attitude), make the winners be the one to face the champions WM. In a way it could be seen as the winners having to go through even more dangerous waters to face the champions at WM due to not winning at the Rumble. There's just so many weeks in between that they need to dedicate to closing out storylines, setting up WM matches and then setting up post-WM's stories and given we always have to set up 2 ppvs there's just not enough consistency. First off, eliminate the womenās Rumble. This ain't it Chief.

I donāt even really want that. Itās still a stop gap because now theyāre establishing 2 world title matches and somehow still have 2 to go and clearly the Rumble Winner one is the one they care about most or conversely care about least and itās the laziest possible way to create a match.

Get rid of Fastlane as a destination for booking and shit wouldn't be so wonky. That's the whole problem.

Maybe they could alleviate the issue by the Rumble winner having unfinished business with someone else. They could rap it up at EC. And the Mania build kicks off after that.

I was thinking this too. WrestleMania 20 was March 14th. And this year Fast Lane is March 10th, with Mania not until April 7th.

Do the Rumble as usual. The winner faces the champ of their choice. Elimination Chamber should determine who faces the other champ. Don't defend the titles IN the chamber. The titles matches set up who the Rumble and Chamber winners face at Wrestlemania.
The Rumble and Chamber runner-ups can face off at Mania to get a title match at Backlash or whatever the f*** the ppv after Mania is.
So it should be:
January: Royal Rumble February: Elimination Chamber March: Wrestlemania April: Backlash
Shit's not hard.

The women are getting everything the men have, up to and including former UFC champions as title holders. But really, between just two matches, thatās 60 f***ing people the audience is meant to be familiar with and have some kind of investment in. They wonder why the audience is dead. Move the womenās Rumble to its own show then the following month. Your Elimination Chamber idea is a good one and probably works best until the gimmick PPV for the sake of it days are over. Then use it if you can storyline your way in there.

Then use it if you can storyline your way in there. I think they can just decrease the number of entrants to the Rumbles and it would work better. We could have qualifying matches for the next month and the winners enter the Rumble and see what happens. That would work best. Sure, pulling numbers was a cool spot when they did it and all that but they can be more creative. They can book it as "these superstars beat their opponents just to enter the Rumble and now instead of having the weaker stars in there, it's a battlefield" or something like that. It just doesn't make any sense to have the Rumble, EC, FL and then WM. Hell, I heard they're moving MITB to May. That's even WORSE. There's no room to breathe.

The two PPVs between Rumble and Mania just doesn't make sense. It wasn't as glaring last year because EC and Fastlane were single-brand shows and thus no one could appear on both (well except Cena because his name is JOHN CENA), but there's just no reason for Fastlane to exist, especially when feuds that seemed to be held off from EC still aren't happening at Fastlane as of right now (looking straight at Andrade vs. Mysterio here).

This raises a good point; you'd think to fill time, we'd see maybe some more midcard feuds, some things meant to tide us over without blowing the builds to the bigger feuds that are bound to get main card Mania matches. Stuff from people who don't usually get PPV matches, people who are bound to end up in a battle royal come Mania but who coudl be perfectly serviceable presences. More #1 contender matches and things to keep the people with marquee shit from having to do too much so they're good for their big match. But that I guess takes work and effort and not just cramming the same people onto every show non-stop, so we don't really get that sensible approach.

The Network means they absolutely have to have a PPV every month. If they go a month without, a lot of people will drop subscriptions for a month until the next one. The only solution is to stop booking Mania in April and ain for March.
