Have they ever had the champ hold the title and had another wrestler make all the title defenses for him? It could open up some interesting story threads. If it was a heel champ it could increase his heat espically when he gets involved and then basks in the glory of being the champ afterwards.
Or if the champ was a face andanother face offered to help, it would be a good way to push this new face in the main event without having to burden him as champ. It could lead to an interesting fued if the wrestler helping out loses, and the former champion turns on him like an ungrateful child. Also brings in the old 'you never beat me, I never lost the belt'.
Just thought it would be something possibly different and more interesting than making vacant a champion again.

Randy Orton did that for Booker T once to finish up a Best of Seven series with Chris Benoit over the US Championship, I believe.

When your Universal champ is allowed to go months without defending it, vacating a title makes less sense now

In ECW, they had Stevie Richards defend (and lose) the ECW title to Sandman while Raven was out for a bit in 96.
Also Orlando Jordan defended the WWE title for JBL against Undertaker in 2004 on Smackdown.
I don't think it's been done recently that I know of.

I thought this was going to be suggesting doing the interim champion thing with it. Which given all of the complications that have arisen from that in actual sports trying to do it in a worked environment would probably quickly turn into a convoluted nightmare.

Another situation I just thought of is that of the volunteering wrestler does loss the belt, but beats the guy for the belt later, it helps set up a fued when the orginal champion is healed and demands the belt to be handed back.

Wasn't because of injury but the AFKA Goldust dressed as Triple H defended and lost his European title to Owen Hart.
I think Owen's only "victory" against Hunter in that feud too

Yeah there seems to be quite incidents where it's been a one off, but has it been done as a Long term thing?

Actually I do have a long-running one - Jerishow. They never actually won the belts, Big Show just stepped in for Edge.

I'd rather just have a fatal 4 way between the top contenders TONIGHT.

I think it would be hilarious if Booker just randomly came out and helped Orton win the title some night. Everyone would be confused and he’d just be like “Well, I did owe you that favor.”

I think it was him and Sheamus arguing over who got to fight Big Show.

Just don’t the UFC thing where someone becomes an interim champion but the other guy is still the champion also. Such ass.

Maybe I'm too old-school, but titles should never be just vacated unless it's for a deliberate storyline reason or the wrestler is medically incapable of getting through a quick deal where they get knocked out or ambushed or something. Get the champ to the ring and have him/her get attacked and beaten immediately, e.g. Owen submitting the European title to HHH when his ankle was in a boot.

Seems like Stevie Ray did this for Booker T. in 1998 WCW with the TV title. Booker was hurt or something so Stevie started defending instead, although I don't think he actually had permission to do it. Jericho beat Stevie for the title if I recall, so these guys are involved in multiple scenarios like this.

Man this could work with Ciampa and Gargano.
Ciampa “gives” the title to Gargano and Gargano “becomes” Ciampa. Finally Ciampa returns around Takeover Summerslam and they have a Champion vs Champion match.
It would be something different at least. Gargano would be ashamed of himself that he lost himself and had to become like Ciampa. But that would all end when he beats him.

Regardless of how the Gargano story goes, what's really important is that they allow Candace to start doing things on her own, and not always just being viewed through the context of what she thinks about Johnny.
