In hindsight, Starrcade 1995 should have been Savage vs. Hogan, even if it were face vs. face. Randy wins the title at WW3, but Hogan undermined that win by bitching about how Randy's win was tained. But Randy got no payback. Rumor and innuendo was that Savage won the battle royal in a clean way but Hogan changed the finish.

Savage jumping to WCW post-SummerSlam 1992 would've been interesting. Savage vs. Austin, Pillman, Vader in 1992/1993 would've all rocked. Throw a Savage/Sting match in there, and they can finish the Roberts/Savage feud with a proper main event (I'm thinking Halloween Havoc 1992). Savage should've made the jump after he lost the title to Flair.
Despite throwing him a bone with the Crush feud Vince pretty much felt Savage's in-ring career was over by that point.

Watched this video over the weekend, and boy does retrospect really make his WCW look even worse than it really was. Ouch. Was he ever in Hogan's shadow.
I don't think his career was over and he still had something to offer (Savage/DDP alone proves that); as with many people, with better management he could've thrived in WCW after 1994. But in a Hogan controlled WCW.......nope.

Not his glory days for sure, but still some great stuff. 1. The paranoid member of the alliance between himself, Hogan, Sting and Luger who always accused Luger of being two faced. 2. The rogue member of the nWo who was constantly getting into conflicts with the rest of the group. 3. The night he sat in the ring for the first half hour of Nitro and refused to leave. 4. The DDP feud. 5. Dream matches with Sting, Bret Hart, Luger, Booker T etc that we would never have gotten if he remained semi-retired in WWE. I agree with all of this, and I am glad Savage had his WCW run. I haven't watched the video and sure Savage got held back because of Hogan, but I loved the DDP feud and I liked his matches with Sting. Even though Bret's WCW run was pretty weak, Savage definitely got one of the better matches out of him. I certainly don't think Savage was phoning it in like some of the others. Although Savage should have retired after the knee injury, he was never the same in the ring, even though mid-life crisis Savage was interesting.

It’s a weird thing that happened. Randy went to wcw because he didn’t want to retire but by doing so he spent the rest of his career being Hogan’s lackey.

Savage in WCW did give us Miss Madness, so I will write the whole thing off as a net gain.

I didn't think Savage going to WCW was bad because until he blew out his knee in 98, he was still giving good matches. He was 99 he came back juiced and his matches where not what they where. He was a lot slower. Was it to much muscle maybe but his knee may never been the same which in his 40's easy could been the case. Thinking about it, outside the elbow, he really didn't do the other spots he normally did.

Still, the DDP feud was some pretty good stuff. Those matches are brilliant and stand out so much from the other stuff going on.

I think it was a combination of his knee and the fact that he was trying to reinvent himself as Attitude Era Macho which was not the Macho that we all knew and loved.

Boy if we all thought mid life crisis Macho was pathetic, let’s not ever discuss his tna run

Still, the DDP feud was some pretty good stuff. The funniest part is that Page only beat Savage 1 on 1 once (unless you count him doing the La Parka ruse), but even in losing to Savage a few times, the matches were so damn crisp that it put Page over like crazy. That feud should be used as the shining example of how to put someone over

I'm sort of glad history happened the way it happened though.

What still decent mobility he had was gone, though. Good look, yeah, but the wrestling (which he'd always been very mindful of) greatly suffered. His fantastic top robe elbow became "guy who could fall off the top rope pretty well trying to flex his arm for an elbow and only sorta make it" Nah I just wanna have that glorious beard, the hat, be all muscular (roided up) and have three hot women follow me around when I’m fifty. OHHHH YEAAAAHHHH! As long as you go out in a blaze of glory like Herb Abrams afterwards....
