From a FAN's perspective of course, when a wrestler didn't have anything else to add to their career, as was inspired by the Savage thread, where at least two posters felt that he should have retired after the DDP feud, but as was also pointed out, maybe Vince was right in not seeing much more for Randy after 91 or so, even though he did go on to win world titles in WCW, he was past his prime and in Hogan's shadow.
After the screwjob, Bret was finished, though things could have been great if WCW hadn't botched his run-even before that, he was just bitchy about everything, after he lost to Michaels, it just wasn't worth sticking around as it was obvious where Vince was going.
I LOVE The Road Warriors, but it wasn't worth their time to return in 97 and go through the debacle that was 1998 forward.
Of course, there was money to be made, but we're disregarding that and focusing on an ideal career and going out on top, or at least near it.

The Undertaker after WrestleMania 30.
I try to consider everything he's done after that non-canon as much as I can.

Andre at WrestleMania 6. The falling out with Heenan after the title loss was his moment of redemption and his "going out with his head high" moment. That should have been it, unless they wanted to do a segment later showing him making up with Hogan or something. WWE sometimes makes it seem like that was it. But in reality, there was another year and a half of teasing he'd return to the ring when he could barely walk, and by the end, the Bushwhackers were licking his face while he was standing around nearly helpless with a walker.

Hulk Hogan should have retired in 2002 (or 2003 at a push)
He built up a lot of goodwill in this run - came back, got a memorable WM moment, won the championship, put over the next big thing on his way out.

Flair is the only one that bothers me. I consider Crown Jewel to be non canonical and it involved the Undertaker so it's not exactly cheating per se, and despite stupid "end of era" tag, Taker/HHH was never billed to be a retirement match.

ric flair after losing to michaels at WM Alimony is a bitch, now you have three alimonies and that’s why Ric kept wrestling until a doctor told him he couldn’t do it. Carlos Colon. He remained on top for forty years without a real heir and he never put it over, even f***ing Invader said that wwc went to shit because Colon should’ve retired in the early 90s. This is Invader saying that and Carlos got him off murder.

The Undertaker after WrestleMania 30. I try to consider everything he's done after that non-canon as much as I can. The perfect way should been after the match at 30 to have the ending he had two years ago follow it. The whole hat, coat, and gloves in the middle. Yeah everything post that match was forgettable.

Foley after either the HIAC with Triple H or the match with Orton at Backlas, both good contenders for which you pick I think.

Verne Gagne in the early 70s hell even in his own movie they called him old. Speaking of territory owners, you should see how bad Dick "the Bruiser" looked from the late 70s onwards and he wrestled until he passed away. Wrestlers were basically placing him on the mat when they body slammed him by the early 80s.

The very latest he should have retired is in 06 after the partnership with Edge at One Night Stand. However, the back to back matches with Triple H were both fantastic and were the perfect send off. Even as a kid who was a fan of Foley, I felt just a bit cheated when he announced he would be wrestling at the the next PPV. Wrestlemania and all, but it soured me on him right there.

Foley is my favourite wrestler but he had multiple retirement points that he should have taken: 2000 (twice) 2004 2006 2007 2009 after losing the TNA belt 2010 after beating Flair
