The only thing that sucks is that he ended up in Houston, but it's not like the Yankees had any say in the matter. Yeah he ended up with the biggest competition and that gives them 3 starters capable of shutting down a line up along with a good enough BP The Yankees no doubt are waiting for all their injuries to clear up and look at those as trades. If teams were trying to take advantage of Cashman I don't blame him for pulling back but on the flip side who is to say these injuries will fully clear up. Giancarlo been gone practically all year and both Delin and Sevy have not pitched all year With talks of Sevy possibly in the BP, the Yanks are essentially looking for 5 innings and going full force with the BP but even then they aren't as lights out as they could be with Chapman having his troubles this year. Yanks were blessed to have had the team basically perform the way they did with damn near everyone was hurt but it is a gamble indeed moving forward

Reporter: Why didn't you add any pitching as you said you would? Cashman: "Honk honk honk"

Well let's calm down on Greinke, I have seen him in the post season, he hasn't impressed me. I am not losing sleep over Greinke, we can beat him, the Mets beat him in 2015 for goodness, but still the fact Cashman does nothing pisses me off. Other than he's going to Houston where pitchers thrive and improve.

This series win is HUGE for the Red Sox. I can't see them winning the division unless the Yankees suffer a historic collaspe but it's still important not only in the Wildcard race but for themselves. They needed to prove that they can compete with and beat the cream of the crop like the Yankees. Not only can it help build thier confidence but being so close to the trading deadline it may convince the front office to invest in the team once more and maybe FOR THE LOVE OF GOD GET A CLOSER! Still the Sox can't rest on thier laurels. Too many times this season the Sox take a big step forward only to take two steps back. They can't follow this by dropping 2 out of 3 to Tampa. They must keep going forward. So since then the Sox aces have gotten pummeled (Price hasn't been right since reigniting his stupid fued with Eck), they look to be well on their way to dropping the series to the Rays and Dombrowski fails to get any help for the bullpen which was HIS ONE JOB!! 🤬 Normally I'd expect them to get swept in New York but the way things are going I think they'll win just enough to stay on the fringes of contention so I can't just move on.

Houston knows how to fix pitchers, even already good ones. Greinke might and probably will improve with the Astros.
Cashman never wants to trade good prospects so he’s going to have a hard time making deadline deals.

Can’t believe the Braves took on all of Melancon’s contract! With him out of the picture maybe they spend big on keeping Will Smith around this offseason? I also think MadBum stays as long as the Giants offer a fair value for him.
A highly regarded prospect for two weeks of Pomeranz’ bullpen work?
Scooter Gennett for maybe almost nothing? (PTBNL + cash)
Bullpen depth (Dyson) traded for farm depth?
All in all a pretty good day at the deadline for the Giants and Farhan.

Believe me, I'm just as frustrated as you are with the Red Sox' inactivity at the deadline, but reading what was offered for top-tier relief pitching, I'm glad Dave Dombrowski didn't do something foolish. The Red Sox were reportedly in on Mets closer Edwin Diaz, but reports were circulating that to acquire Diaz, it would cost Andrew Benintendi. And while Benintendi hasn't fully lived up to the expectations placed on him as a rookie - a perennial .300 hitter who would remind older Red Sox fans of Fred Lynn - he's still only 25 years old, is capable of a 20-20 season, has a career .281 average, and is one of the most slick-fielding outfielders in the game. That's too much to give up for Diaz, who, while also 25 years old and removed from one of the greatest relief pitching seasons of all-time, is just a closer and that position is intensely fungible from year to year. Give me an outfielder like Benintendi over a closer like Diaz any day. Then when you look at what the Pirates were asking of the Dodgers for Felipe Vazquez - Gavin Lux (MLB.com's 10th-best prospect) or Dustin May (MLB.com's 35th-best prospect) - you realized that Boston couldn't match that offer if they tried. The farm system has been purged (thanks in large part to Dombrowski), so there was nothing they could offer that would even come close to equating to a top-35 prospect. Boston probably could have matched or exceeded what Atlanta gave to Detroit for Shane Greene (two mid-tier prospects in Joey Wentz and Travis Demeritte), but that would have been the best reliever the Red Sox could have landed yesterday.

So the Mets have won 7 straight, 9 of the last 11.
Ya gotta...believe?

Suspensions just came out for the brawl between the Pirates and the Reds.
On a related note: Pirates are a bitch mode team.

Suspensions just came out for the brawl between the Pirates and the Reds. On a related note: Pirates are a bitch mode team. Where did the "Pirates are thugs" come from? I worked for them from 2016 to earlier this year, and have watched them for years (ugh). I have only seen a handful of times where they've gone after somebody. If anything, they've been bitches for NOT retaliating. When Tony Rizzo did an unnecessary slide and took out Elias Diaz, they did nothing. So while they may be stupid about when they retaliate, I never saw them as a "thug" team. Not that I follow that "unwritten rule" bullshit anyways. Dude hits a home run, strike him out next time. But I do understand if somebody hurts another person. Then, yeah...put one right in their ass. Not the head or somewhere serious. Ass/thigh area only.

Sunday's Red Sox / Yankees game will be interesting, since both schedule starting pitchers are on paternity leave.

It’s so cool that Carl Yastrzemski’s grandson is killing it as a Giant. Picked off the scrap heap from the Orioles... so thanks for that, Baltimore!

Tell that to Kela who intentionally threw at someone's head and got a 10 game suspension for that and instigating that brawl. Pirate pitchers have been throwing at dudes all year this year.
I wouldn't call them thugs, though. Like I said, bitch mode.
