It's time to journey into 1987, where we will have FIVE lists. This is the first list. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

Prince of Darkness - Love Carpeneter but I haven't seen this one yet.
Near Dark - Also haven't seen this but own the dvd.
Hellraiser - Is great and has my vote.

A little less than two hours for the first poll of 1987, and while Hellraiser is deservedly winning, Near Dark or Prince of Darkness could creep.

This will probably be dropped a few minutes earlier than the deadline, but it's pretty clear Hellraiser ended up tearing this poll apaaarrrtttt(!!!), and will be going on to the next round. It is a fantastic film, which kind of raised the bar as to where horror could go.


That all being said, I voted Prince of Darkness. I love this friggin' movie, and consider it the scariest "Devil" movie. Great cast, some truly disturbing scenes. This is classic John Carpenter right here.


Opera is, in my opinion, Dario Argento's last GREAT film. He would have some good ones after, but I think this was the last movie where he was going at 100%, quality wise. A mix of style and brutality, Argento's giallo is definitely worth checking out, if one hasn't.

Near Dark melds the vampire film with the western (in some ways), and produces this cool little movie. Great cast and some great moments. This is worth watching as well.

Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2 is a cool franchise change (in direction) that blends a possession/ghost movie to make a decent little horror flick. This used to be on Saturday Nightmares (on USA) quite a bit during my childhood years.

Slumber Party Massacre 2 was an interesting attempt to try to create their own "Freddy" character, as the killer (with an electric guitar drill) goes after our cast of half dressed co eds in their dreams. It's okay for what it is.

I would say the same for The Video Dead. It's decent for what it is. Zombies spring out of a cursed television set, as two teens do their level best to stop the zombie invasion before it spreads too far.

Ok...1987 Part 2, here we come.
