Yep. At least Kane had his awesome 1997-2002 to lean on. Corbin never built any goodwill like that. He just immediately went from NXT to Local Man.

Reposting from a thread last week:
Honestly though, I like Corbin. He was probably my most hated guy on the roster during his lone wolf days because he was sooooo awful and wooden on the mic. He improved a ton in that area during his constable/GM run. He's not great in the ring, but he's not terrible; he's got a couple cool moves and arguably throws the best punches in the company. He's usually fun in multiman matches. I think there's certainly a place for him as a snarmy midcard turd.
His problem is the same as 85% of the roster: Creative has no clue how to use him properly.

I legitimately enjoy and appreciate Baron Corbin. He’s a good heel who gets reactions (actual heel reactions, which is justified as go-away heat around here because everyone hates him) and isn’t afraid to look like an absolute moron. Did WWE go a little overboard with him? Sure. He isn’t nearly as bad as he’s made to sound though. Nah its actually “change the channel” heat bro. Look at the state of the Raw ratings. It’s no coincidence that McIntyre and Corbin just HAPPEN to be all over these shows. Yup. Baron Corbin overexposure is the reason ratings have been in a years long decline. All Baron’s fault. Got it.

Seems like a nice enough guy who doesn't take himself too seriously. Like others have said, I don't feel he's as bad as he's made out to be, he's just overexposed. He's a serviceable goofy midcard heel getting 2000 HHH amounts of TV time.
Like I've said a million times, he's another guy who'd benefit from having a Hardcore Title again because those kinds of matches is where he shines.

His rolled up sleeves are always perfectly symmetrical.

I also like his slide around the ring post spot.

By that logic, neither is Roman... or Seth... or Dean.... or DBry..., or anyone who’s been on TV for the last few years. Dude is mismanaged (as is nearly everyone) and overexposed. It doesn’t mean he’s as terrible as this place presents him as.

I liked the Lone Wolf stuff on Smackdown and thought he was a solid midcard hand. The stuff where he became the snitch to Stephanie was even fine, but it went off the rails fast when he became the actual Authority figure and they featured him all over the show.

He's getting a lot more TV time than his talent deserves. He's a channel changer for me.

Corbin's promo on Raw was really good -- seriously, go watch him attempt to speak 2-3 years ago. Even the biggest Corbo haters should be able to see how much he's improved.
Also, his Eva Marie-esque intro was great. I hope they keep that and introduce him as the 'favorite son' of every city they're in.

All things considered, he's not that bad. Just largely bland, nothing overly exciting about him. With the right character tweak, he could actually be something. Exactly. Much like Nia and Tamina, the dude is massively loathed and hyped up as this lousy wrestler who has “go away heat.” IMO the dude is the best heel in terms of mic work and cheap heat. His mannerisms have also picked up since being this former GM shtick. As for the in ring work though? Yeah, he’s as bland as they come, however, he does bring it in multiple man matches.

Just like Roman, dude simply isnt good enough for his spot. And also WWE storytelling sucks.

Let us list the ways in which he is worthy of our praise! 1. His groundbreaking haircut 2. His impeccable fashion sense 3. Corbin and Lashley became fast friends with Drew and created a supergroup that rivals the NWO, DX and the Dungeon of Doom combined Baron, stop posting threads. I know it's you.

I don't think Corbin is great but I don't think he's the worst thing at WWE at the moment. He's not bad or has the "get off my TV" factor to be called a "Local Man".
He's just... average.
