Another one from the 90's, but a lot of the jokes on Friends have not aged well. Especially in the first Thanksgiving episode, there's a joke about Joey wearing makeup and Chandler calls him a transvestite. The fat Monica stuff definitely wouldn't go over well today, nor would the "we were on a break" running gag.

Not sure if anyone has heard of it internationally but there was an 80s British sitcom called 'Allo Allo'. They used to play 'Allo 'Allo every once in a while on a Canadian kids network after midnight to fill time... along with the Young Ones and Bottom. Is there a DVD set for 'Allo 'Allo out there? Allo Allo is available on one set. It’s part of this series called “shite and terribly dated British comedies that for some reason are popular worldwide”. Along with Are You Being Served and Keeping Up Appearances.

I recently found out that Keeping Up Appearances is on PBS in the States and has acquired a cult following among some gay men (apparently the Rose character is a bit of an icon). As for Friends it suffers from ‘Notting Hill’ syndrome. Set in one of the most diverse cities in the world and what? I think Ross dates an Asian lady for a few episodes, there’s a black extra or two used whenever Monica throws a party but other than that their social circle appears to be entirely white.

Any Piper's Pit where he is interviewing a black wrestler. Any Tito Santana match in the 1980s.

Would Rowdy Roddy Piper attacking Jimmy Snuka with a coconut count? Painting himself half-black against Bad News Brown sure as shit is.

The fat Monica stuff definitely wouldn't go over well today, nor would the "we were on a break" running gag. Fat Monica today would now be a 30 minute fatty falldown gag/stereotypical Melissa McCarthy role, with the writers nonetheless saying "look we have plus size protagonists, thank us!" anyway. As far as size acceptance goes, it's often same crap, new commode.

Now I like AYBS and KUA, but I at least agree about them being considered the only Britcoms in existence, if you go by what PBS only shows nowadays. That and As Time F'N Goes By. I'd imagine AYBS holds up the least jokewise (Mr. Humphries especially), but none of those shows are any worse than Little Britain, from the 2000s but manages to age worse in a handful of years than the others did in decades.

I'd say Friends was providing social commentary on the gentrification of New York City, especially Manhattan. But that'd be giving the show way too much credit for being any sort of self-aware on that front.

Aisha Tyler also had a recurring role in the later seasons, probably as a response to the criticisms to an extent, but even that wasn't exactly much.

Sam Malone. Just Sam Malone. Randomly saw an episode last week, him and Diane were full on slapping each other in the face in a fight, kinda awkward.

The impressions just looked like generic comedy mammie voice and pratting around.
