On to 1996, where we will have Three lists once again. This is the First list out of the three. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

I voted for Bad Moon. Thor the dog taking on the werewolf is pretty awesome. It’s a mark out scene for me.

THE DENTIST features Corbin Bernsen as a scenery chewing dentist who sees decay in society like he sees decay in teeth: it's everywhere!



So I had to vote for it.

Of this lot I have seen Scream, Bad Moon & Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering.

CotC4 is not good at all.

Bad Moon is decent.

Scream I don't care about. After the opening scene it's horror walks off as it becomes a murder mystery. Honestly I'm not a fan of any of them and think they are all distinctly average. To my mind they sort of belong to this weird 90s caper horror genre that includes I know what you did last summer and the final destination movies.

So yeah Bad Moon has my vote here.

Another hour left. Scream is leading, but Bad Moon isn't too far behind.

Calling this one early, but Scream has this in the bag. Not surprising, though, as it really is the best option on this list. That's why I voted for it; it's importance to horror history can't be denied. Beyond all that, it's definitely a fun movie, and it was kind of the shot in the arm the horror genre needed, as the wave that had started in the late 70's (and ran strong through the 80's) kind of crashed into the rocks by the mid 90's. The success of Scream started a new wave that would run for the next decade, and we'll see this really start in the next couple years.

Other than that....well, Bad Moon isn't bad. Definitely better than one could expect during this point of the decade. Little Witches was a lower budgeted attempt to cash in on The Craft, which, I'm sure we'll be seeing before 96 is done. It's OK....not near as good as the movie it's ripping off. Stephen King's Thinner is an OK adaptation of a book that's good at best. Written under his Richard Bachman, Thinner was the book that kind of gave the game away that it was Stephen King writing these books. Of course, it's significance is kind of pointless for this movie, which is just kinda...meh.

Finally, we have Santa Claws, which was produced by John Russo and some of the other behind the scenes/actors from the original Night of the Living Dead. However, for those expecting zombies, you have to wait a few years for Russo and company's ill advised "Special Edition" of NOTLD, as this is more of a slasher movie. Actually, it's more of a long commercial for their Scream Queens magazine, as Debbie Rochon and the other women in this one show as much skin as they can without turning the movie into pure soft core. It's ok for what it is, I guess. At the very least, it's fun to see NOTLD actors making cameos in this, like Karl Hardman (Harry Cooper in the original).

OK, on to the second 96 list.
