We move even farther into 2002 with the Third of Four lists. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

Dog Soldiers.

A group of British soldiers (Including Alfred from Gotham) try and survive the night in a house surrounded by werewolves. One of my favorite werewolves movies.

Alright let's see:

Bubba Ho-Tep is a cool Bruce Campbell film I really liked (my vote went here).

Dog Soldiers is a great werewolf film.

Blade 2 (Did we even get to vote on Blade?) is a very entertaining sequel.

Resident Evil - the first of the Resi films and probably the most source accurate, it's alright.

Queen of the Damned is the horror film I always see in the shops but never actually watched/bought.

i ADORE resident evil and watched it many many times
i WAS gonna pick BLADE 2 .....

ALICE and her nifty cover outfit get's it
but i liked everything in the movie, from the set pieces to the characters to the twist to keeping the zombies and eventually the licker back .....
even the slipknot theme song is rocking!

Went with BLADE II. I recently re-watched all 3 BLADE movies and had a good time. *thumbs up*

A little over an hour and a half left, and Dog Soldiers is winning, but not by a lot.

Lot of competition in this poll, but Dog Soldiers wound up squeaking ahead to win this one. I'm psyched, as I voted for this one, and I'm happy it will be going on to the next round. It deserves to. This is a great mix between The Howling, Predator, and towards the end, Night of the Living Dead (but with werewolves), as a group of weekend warrior soldiers end up being stalked by a group of vicious Howling like werewolves. Between this and Ginger snaps, this is probably the best time for werewolf movies since the early 80's. Definitely worth checking out.

However, the runner up movie would have been my second choice as well, and that's Bubba Ho-Tep, as Bruce Campbell plays what appears to be an aging Elvis who is biding his time in a nursing home. With a man who believes he's JFK (played by the always great Ossie Davis), the supposed Elvis tries to track down a mysterious entity that is picking off the other elderly people at the nursing home. This was really interesting and a lot of fun.

Also fun (and kick ass) is Blade II, which is arguably the best film in the franchise (a valid argument as well). Guillermo del Toro does a great job with the direction of this, and adds a depth to both Blade and the whole human/vampire thing than we saw in the first movie. Very solid.

Also solid is the first Resident Evil movie, which, unlike the movies that would follow, tries to be as much of a horror movie as an action one. It's also a pretty solid zombie movie as well, which, once again, can't really say as much for the latter movies, as the threat becomes more mutated animals and people as it is zombies. This is a pretty cool little time waster.


Queen of the Damned was a decent movie if one hadn't read the Anne Rice books they were based off of (Queen of the Damned, of course, and The Vampire Lestat). If one had, then this is a pretty piss poor adaptation of those books, as so many things are crammed together and erased from those two kick ass follow ups to Interview With the Vampire. Plus, the actor playing Lestat is NO Tom Cruise, as it seems not to understand that Lestat is meant to be French, not Spanish (as the actor kind of does a bad Antonio Banderas impression all throughout the movie). However, I will say that visually, the movie is very solid, as it has a very music video look to it. Once again, it's decent if one is just watching this cold, but otherwise...

I did like Stephen King's Rose Red as a whole, but there were some cheesy elements in there that kept this from being as great as it could have been. I actually thought the prequel, The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer was much better, as it went about the business of showing how the house became a BAD place.

Finally, we get to two shot on video movies; first, Dead and Rotting is a decent little horror comedy about a witch that transforms herself into smoking hot Debbie Rochon in order to take revenge on a group of douche bags that wronged her. It's decent for what it is.

Lastly, I gotta say I love that more Chris Seaver/Low Budget Pictures movies are popping up on this list, as I love his stuff. Definitely, once again, not for the easily offended, but for those who enjoy Troma style humor and many 80's pop culture references, Seaver's movies, including Filthy McNasty, are definitely for you. In this, two nerdy girls end up being transformed into hotties by a sex demon, only to find out that the deal they made is, of course, more than it seems to be. Much blood and gore ensue.
