So we already know that Cody, The Bucks, and Omega are EVP's, along with many others having "office" titles that allow them to enjoy certain benefits such as Health Insurance and all that. Surely also, the EVP's are probably the main figures as far as booking goes, Jim Ross possibly falls into that mix as Senior Advisor or whatever they gave him. It's been quite some time since we've seen talent essentially running a promotion.. so that makes me wonder. What do y'all think Tony's perception is with the guys and exactly what is he in control of aside from the financial backing and all that. Do you think he's letting the EVP's basically call the shots? Does creative get run by him? He's obviously a superfan, and the official owner of AEW, but I just don't see him as the end all be all like how McMahon is with WWE. What do you think?

He's Vince. He has already said in interviews how he's the head booker, and is just listening to the wrestlers for ideas. He has final say over everything, because it's his money, and he's.... qualified to be in charge because it's his money, and he's been a fan all his life.

I actually don't think it's a bad thing for a guy outside of the wrestling bubble to be head booker. Give it a fresh perspective. We'll see how he does.

I'm guessing he's in that sports owner role where he has the Elite guys handle the stuff that isn't in his wheelhouse but has final say in financial decisions or if there needs to be some internal firings/hiring.

If he’s just the owner and controls the money I have no problem, if he’s the booker then it’s all downhill from here, history has proven that inexperienced bookers kill companies.
He might be a good businessman but he doesn’t know how to run a wrestling company.

Right now, we will just have to see how things go, we have seen successful business owners completely fail in owning wrestling companies. But Bushiroad buying out New Japan has done wonders for the company with Kidani leading the way and now Harold Meij who so far has taken the company even higher. Kidani built a focus on establishing young stars mainly Okada and Naito to build the company around, but for most part left the booking to Gedo and others.
What they did very well, was build the business itself. They put the wrestling into the right hands, who weren't current top stars that just cared about themselves, while they had clear goals to expand the business globally but at the same time domestically. Not only has attendance gone up along with the growth of New Japan World, but their merchandising has even transcended that. At the same time learning how to properly use social media and their website to build their product.
I think Khan has good things and bad things heading into this. The Bucks/Elite know how to market and sell merch in the world of wrestling, which certainly helps to make money and they understand social media. They know have TNT to produce and air a weekly wrestling show, so that is also a good thing.
But I could see egos causing issues and how much is everyone willing to put into this? After hearing the Bucks cry about New Japan, it makes me wonder if they are going to still be trying to steal the show and prove they are the best, or is this a retirement plan like Nash/Hall/Hogan in WCW? Cody also worries me, because he's a lot like his father, in surrounding himself with people that are more over and really just better wrestlers than him. While Dusty had a great mind for the business, he also abused his power to help himself stay at the top of the card and spent a lot of money on Crockett's dime that had a big part to play in JCP folding despite the fact that they were still a top drawing company.
Another thing that worries me most of all, too many cooks in the kitchen, how many EVPs are there? For now they are all on the same page, but that was when other people controlled their booking. Now that they essentially book themselves what happens when they disagree? Even if they all play ball together, how many people will really want to come in to put them over? Jericho doesn't mind because he's in his late 40s, an already established talent and is getting paid very well. But will young talent want to stick around once they realize they aren't beating any of these guys and could go elsewhere to make their own destiny.
At the end of the day, we are just going to have to wait and see how things play out.

That might just be my imagination lmao I think I almost heard that too, which is what raised the question. Assuming that Khan is in a Vince type role, I'm just having a hard time imagining some sort of creative meeting where Cody and all them bring him an idea that he doesnt exactly agree with. They (all EVP's included), have tons of experience inside the business, where Tony is just a fan. Aside from having the leverage as the actual proprietor, why should they care what he thinks? Like I said, I know he's a fan of good legitimate wrestling.. but so far, that's all he is. Time will tell I reckon. I'm stoked for all of them, and I'm stoked for wrestling in general after this thing really gets legs on it.

I was super impressed every time he talks. He is the boss, and has four amazing minds right under him. Its a great structure, because the buck will end with him. At some point there will be hard choices that have to be made, and he seems like the kind of level headed person to make them.

Court Bauer is doing pretty good with the MLW relaunch

I don't doubt Jericho's respect for him, I just swore I heard him say something along the lines of "it's always good to have a money ma- money guy" or something like that. I could 100% just be imagining that though so take what I say with a grain of salt.

The buck has to stop somewhere, and in this case it stops with Tony Khan.
If his "creative control" boils down to "I'm not attaching my money to that, fix it." then that's fine, and probably good in the long run.
If it's micro-managing to the nth detail... then yeah, AEW is dead in the water.

In recent history, which experienced booker came in, started a company, and had it be a success? Gabe Sapolsky, Court Bauer, Super Dragon, Chris Dejoseph. Which one of these sold out a 15k arena and secured a national cable deal? Gabe didnt get fired from ROH? Court didnt close up MLW in 2004? Love PWG, but Super Dragon and the 6 never had the success the Elite and Khan have had so far. And DeJoseph is just part of a group of people who created/wrote LU. You think the top decisions fell on him, or all the myriad of producers. Give me Tony Khan, who was tape trading ECW and SMW in 1993, Cody, and the Bucks, over the guy whos claim to fame was writing the Edge Lita Live Sex Segment. "Experienced" bookers have failed. "Experienced" bookers book Raw and Smackdown weekly. Gabe answered to investors, Dragon had to answer to the 6, and DeJospeh had to answer to United Artists. And all have failed in some way or another. My favorite all time companies, Smokey Mountain and ECW, failed, with the greatest wrestling minds of all time. In the end, Tony seems like a guy who isnt experienced, but has enough guys who are. And a weekly national cable show, sold out shows, and a business plan backed by a billionaire, with a group of wrestlers that have drawn and gotten over in a way that hasnt been seen since the 90s, with just their ideas. They have as much of a chance as success, and failure, as anyone. Khan being "unexperienced", doesn't mean anything one way or another.
