I'm watching Rey Mysterio vs Kidman from 1999 Spring Stampede and both are tag team champions.
Is this the first example of Tag team champions facing off in a singles match? I know Owen and Bulldog did in 97 but were they champions at the time?

Austin and Michaels did in mid-97 (or was it 96?).

I know it wasn't a singles match but Demolition fighting each other at Royal Rumble 1989 blew my young mind when I saw it.

I know Owen and Bulldog did in 97 but were they champions at the time? Yes. They were the reigning tag champs two days after WM13 when they had the match where they tried to destroy each other and Bret broke it up.

But, before that they faced each other in the finals to crown the first European Champion in a great match.

While they were actually partners during the matches, two WWF 4-way matches saw the Smoking Gunns forced to wrestle each other, with the risk of eliminating themselves in the process.
I'm not up on early 90s WCW, but did any tag team champs end up on opposing teams for Lethal Lottery?
I feel like Sting and Luger must have faced each other at some point while they had the belts, but off the top of my head I'm not sure.

They weren't tag Champs at the time but at Slamboree 96 both the Road Warriors and Steiners ended up on opposing teams. What sounded like dream match scenarios turned into absolutely nothing.
