The move to Smackdown from RAW in the 2008 draft was confusing as hell and who would of thought that would be pretty much the end of his full time run. After the 2009 Smackdown run he was gone and appeared very randomly. He could of continued as lead announcer on RAW for from 08-16 and I wouldn't have been bored of him. He's still got it and really puts over talent. AEW seem a lot more legit with him I will miss him when he's gone.

I consider him the GOAT on commentary and WWE really wasted him when they were constantly taking him off TV and screwing with him. Alot of people are giving him loads of crap for his run with NJPW, but I feel like he just wasn't comfortable with the new atmosphere/product. He proved at DoN that he still has it. No one could have sold the ending like good ol JR did.

But isn't it more fun to harass him and humiliate him as much as possible? I don't get it, Pal.

To be honest I thought JR had lost it years ago, but he was pretty good for Double or Nothing. I think motivation is a HUGE factor in how good JR is.

So he's gonna attack John Cena while wearing a salmon-colored suit?

JR on a bad day is still leagues better than Cole on a good day.

IIRC he had another Bell’s Palsy related issue the day of Breaking Point, so they ostensibly used that as a way to get him out of the booth as a full time guy.

I've read good things about him at DON, but he was horrible last time I heard him during the Mae Young Classic a couple years ago.

It depends on how interested JR is with what's going on. Moxley's appearance, a guy who he knows, really let him go back to the old days and show how great he is when he needs to be. His debut was huge and JR's vocals on that track made it a smash hit. The "Moxey and Omega!!" lines were similar to the Austin/Tyson ones decades ago and it really made the moment better. His other stuff wasn't bad, some was a bit boring but overall he's still got it.
If they put on a great product and JR is invested, he'll do his thing.

Jr bored me to death years before that and his njpw stint was awful. His hiring at aew almost outraged.

The quality, or lack thereof, was always irrelevant. Vince never f***ed with and was never gonna f*** with the ashtetic of JRs voice.

Glad he's turned things around, but he was really phoning it in his last couple years in WWE. Some of that's on him.

He sounded really weird in his last few appearances for WWE but he sounded more like himself on Saturday.

And he sounds much better since Conrad has joined him on the podcast...

I’m not going to say I’m a JR defender but I got the sense the role he had wasn’t quite working and it showed. Same with his NJPW stuff, some of it was plain bad.
By the end of DoN, that was literally the most motivated I heard JR in a decade plus. He MADE that Moxley appearance.

DoN proved that when he cares, he's still one of the best to ever do commentary. Problem is that a lot of the times, he doesn't come off like he cares.

JR was always someone who worked best when he cared. For a lot of his later WWE run, he didn't. For the New Japan stuff he definitely didn't. I can't speak to his relationship with Vince, but he always came off like if he was asked to do anything other than a Taker match he couldn't give less of a f***. For Double or Nothing I think a big factor is that he's working for a Rhodes now, and he's not going to disrespect Dusty by letting down his boy.

He hasn't done much to show he did during this period.

JR being great when he cares to be is meaningless if he phones it in most of the time, which was a problem then as it is now. One good night does not erase all the nights where he didn't try, and blamed others for his lack of caring to boot.
