Vince believes that the future of WWE is against competition like Disney or Fox, not piddly little pro wrestling companies. If that's the case then this is a war that only Vince will be fighting and he's still going to lose.

Once AEW gets their feet wet with consistent television we might see a little change. But at this point fans are better off just continuing to watch a more coherent product. When AEW debuts on television, my belief is more people will most likely drift away from the WWE, embracing the much fresher and exciting product of AEW. The sad reality is TNA could've been that legitimate competition to the WWE at one point. Vince wasn't as set in his ways when TNA was slowly rising and they could've literally lit a spark under him. Instead of becoming a true alternative to the WWE, desperation and wanting some form of relevant attention made them become WWE lite rather than their own entity. Only time will tell what AEW will bring to the table. Until then people need to just completely stop watching WWE, cancel their subscription, don't order their events, and find a way not to give them your time and money. At the same time the climate is a lot different compared to when the Monday Night Wars were going on. At that point and time there wasn't hardly any alternative entertainment, social media wasn't a thing, no Netflix, no Hulu, no Amazon Prime, and no online gameplay. Here in 2019 we have so much more entertainment at our fingertips that I think the next big thing in wrestling is next to impossible. Nope. I'm going to keep watching because I'd rather hope WWE get better than insist it will never happen.

Vince needs Luffy and the Straw Hats to come kick his ass.
He fits most of the criteria for an One Piece big bad.
Wealthy, powerful, influential
Has an empire of minions/subjects/"citizens"
His empire appears to be a Dream from outside. Fame. Tv. Fun job. Money.
Inside. The residents are basically hostages, miserable but smiling outward and held in place out of fear of reprisal & legal issues.
Some sort of psychosis/npd/sociopathy typical of a good villain, but terrifyingly enough, lucid just enough to project it towards others and maintain appearances.
Has hands in tons of shady business deals while appearing a philanthropic hero
The world government most likely knows, but considers him useful enough to maintain status quo in his little corner of the world that generates revenue.
He has eccentricities that are most certainly befitting an Eichiro (sp?) Oda character in that he only eats certain things or says weird catch phrases.
Has an extremely f***ed up tragic past, that doesnt excuse his behavior, but helps establish he's not mustache twirling "evil for sake of being evil".
Anyone else? Kn? Capt money?

I said this in a thread in (w)rest, but I honestly don't much care if AEW "lights a fire under Vince" or whatever; I get why people hope for that, as having multiple wrestling promotions doing well is better for everyone, but I just want AEW to do well and have it contribute to everyone else doing well, too, by giving exposure to more wrestlers, cooperating with other promotions, etc. MLW, Impact, ROH, international promotions, whatever, I want to see them all grow and hope that AEW's presence helps that to happen in some way, shape, or form. If WWE also improves, great, but if they don't, it is what it is, and I'd kind of like to see their business practices challenged and shown to be outdated, anyway.

Honestly I think all of this is more likely to result in Vince finally stepping down instead of having a fire lit under him or whatever. He's a lot older now than the last time he had competition and now he's got his XFL project, I think it's more likely he just decides he doesn't want to deal with this shit anymore.

That's how someone with perspective would handle things. That is not how Vince would handle things. WWE is all he has. It's all he knows. The football stuff is just a fun diversion for him (if it ever actually happens).

He's already spent hundreds of millions of dollars of his own money on the football stuff, thats not some small diversion. IDK I don't want to play arm chair psychologist but as he gets really up there in years he seems to be more resentful of his outside ventures always failing and I think he really wants his legacy to be more than just the WWE. I really believe that combined with the dumpster fire the WWE is becoming is going to come to a head sooner rather than later.

Why open another business?
