That was only the first test. It feels like weโve been through a whole series already!

I was fortunate enough to be at Edgbaston last week to see a terrific day of cricket.
But it all pales in comparison to seeing Jonny Bairstow literally carry a Just Stop Oil protestor to the boundary.

HUGE win for scotland in the cricket world cup qualifier, defeating a very sorry west indies and KNOCKING THEM OUT for the first time! whooped them by seven wickets too, and REVENGE for whet they did tae us 5 years previous!
we have a real good chance to qualify now, if we beat the host zimbabwe and then netherlands ... and the zimbs meet sri lanka tomorrow!
but we're scotland ...

England have done well to get back in this test but Ben Stokes has just been caught out after scoring 155. England still need 70 runs with 3 wickets remaining.

The ugliness surrounding the Bairstow dismissal and the reaction to it is why I don't really look forward to Ashes series that much as a cricket supporter. Some people thrive on that kind of hostility and intensity but for me it's nasty, not fun.

It's not something that particularly bothers me, but I did find it funny today that throwing all kinds of abuse at players (even in the Long Room at Lord's) is in the spirit of the game but a legal dismissal isn't.

Quite. My personal view is that it was a cynical (although entirely legitimate) dismissal, and not really within what I would consider the spirit of cricket, but neither was the behaviour of some of the members.

I donโt follow the cricket really.
But I was born in England, but at a young age I moved to and grew up in Australia. And seeing the supporters of both sides is like watching my parents snipe at each other.
It can be quite funny

It can be quite funny Itโs like if both your parents were both being goaded by Rupert Murdoch to argue, while he pisses himself laughing at them both and counting his money.

we were DESTROYED by the dutch, 44 combined runs in the third and second last overs, and it was easy peasy for the netherlands at the end
and it's they who qualify for the world cup!!!
absolutely gutting for scotland

Are there any other followers of the County Championship? It's been a funny old round this week, but I was fortunate enough to see a very silly yet utterly enthralling day of cricket at Northwood today between Middlesex and Northamptonshire, that ended in a tied score draw.

I couldnโt believe that when I was checking the scores on cricinfo after work today. Those last few overs must have been crazy and Robson must have been gutted with those last 2 overs as 14 from 12 will have felt nailed on Iโm sure. Iโm a Durham fan and was day off yesterday with the missus at work so took myself down to the Riverside and watch us open the day still batting ih our first innings and end the day successfully chasing down the target at the end. Honestly didnโt think Iโd see a finish at the start of the play but it was a great day of cricket and we look to pretty much have sealed promotion back to Div 1 already.

It was a really peculiar chase, Robson looked very nervy before lunch and almost ran himself out at the non-striker's at one point, and even though he ended up with a pretty well-made ton, it wasn't what you wanted as the required rate started creeping up above six or seven. Really the entire chase hinged on some poor fielding and a twenty minute Toby Roland-Jones cameo. A win would've made survival much more likely, not that we really deserve it, but now it's going to depend on Kent as much as anything. Surrey next week too.
Promotion looks a certainty for Durham though, it's the best attack in D2 and should frankly never have been relegated. It's funny to see Sussex and in particular Leicestershire pushing for promotion too after both had such a wretched 2022, or in Leicestershire's case a pretty miserable past decade.

Yeah, I hope you guys stay up but with the way the season has gone itโs looking tough. Must have been such a bizarre day of cricket. Thatโs the beauty of the game though. What other sport can you play for four days and go into the final over with all 3 results (theoretically, a Northants win was obv incredibly unlikely at that point) still possible. Yeah our pace attack is incredible. Batting line up has killed it this year too with Lees, Bedingham (although we likely lose him for next season) and Clark all looking great. Ollie Robinson (WK variation) has been a phenomenal signing too. Excited for the future after a decade of shite haha.

All of Australia be doing a rain dance to prevent England from taking the five wickets required to win the match (or at the very least, chase a likely small total) and keep the series alive for the fifth Test.
