It's like I feel bad for Smith but at the same time like I reallyreally can't fault New Japan for not being interested in this dude having a singles run, lol. He's a good hand to have and a fine Tag Team wrestler. I mean his Tag Titles stats are insane when you think about it.

Man, Lifeblood is (was?) such a pointless idea. It really felt like someone booking ROH said "hey, Bullet Club/Elite were really popular, so let's just create another stable of random people and they'll get just as popular". They have some genuine prospects involved with it, but it is so directionless and unnecessary it just makes everybody look like random goons. Hopefully with Juice gone they'll give these guys genuine build ups. Lifeblood was like your character's HCTP Season Mode stable in real life. It's like Day of Reckoning, where they needed a SmackDown stable to match Evolution, so they made the New Ministry with Undertaker, Booker T, Charlie Haas, and Big Show lol

so dude debuts and they build a huge stable around him being the leader and 9 matches later he's gone?
sounds about right for ROH

Probably the right move for both guys, Juice in ROH was just weird and he should focus on NJPW. DBS Jr. was seen purely as a tag guy and in NJPW that means doing absolutely nothing for most of the year

As far as DBS goes I kinda hope he goes to AEW. They need someone who actually looks like, well, a pro wrestler. AEW just did 100,000 ppv buys and you think they need Davey Boy Smith Jr.? I get not liking the product, but this is delusional.

I'm curious if Davey Boy is keeping his eyes open for anything akin to the Bloodsport show from Mania weekend; he had a hell of a performance there, and is tight with Josh Barnett, I believe.

There's an alternate universe where New Japan worked with Akira Toriyama instead of Go Nagai and Liger instead got a gimmick based off of Goku and the whole course of wrestling history changes. On its most minor level, that unable to get any sort of Journey to the West trappings, Yoshi-Hashi ends up with a Sword Art Online gimmick and is somehow even more pathetic.

I do think Smith could have been used more in NJPW. He’s underrated as a singles guy and he’s never had a prolonged push as that. Would much rather him be in the g1 instead or Archer.

Considering the timeframe of his excursion comeback, YH would get a Naruto gimmick. Which would be a lot more annoying.

One name I'd love to see back is Harry Smith in his British Bulldog Jr. gimmick with Balor and Nakamura now on the roster that could be a great return and give the UK fans their hero since they wouldn't let Barrett be that guy.

Honestly I always thought it was a mistake for him to start calling himself "Davey Boy Smith Jr.". It just screamed "I have no idea what to do with myself so I'm just gonna ride my Father's legacy for all it's worth".

Sounds like NJPW Talent don't want to go to ROH David Finlay was on Matt Koon's podcast a couple months ago and that's the exact vibe he gave. He basically said this without saying it. He said the political thing that "NJPW is a lot more laid back than ROH." Without giving any specifics beyond "you have to show up a lot earlier for ROH events."

Sounds like NJPW Talent don't want to go to ROH Another thing that was mentioned was Zack Sabre Jr. was put on their roster page and only ended up working one taping. Supposedly he was scheduled to work there more. Personally I think New Japan is in the works of making a US touring brand. Nothing large scale, like the New Beginnings tour they ran in the US. That way they can get the LA Dojo Young Lions more work and they can send the Japanese Young Lions over for excursion. Once this happens, the ROH relationship is meaningless and they can even sign some US talent to work for them.

That way they can get the LA Dojo Young Lions more work and they can send the Japanese Young Lions over for excursion. Once this happens, the ROH relationship is meaningless and they can even sign some US talent to work for them. That certainly seems to have been the plan, to at least get a group going that could at least tour the West Coast in small to mid sized venues, then bring the US title over as that group's main belt. Not sure it would totally negate the ROH relationship, as it's hard to say if they'd go all out touring in places like the Midwest or East Coast, as well, and I'm sure they still like being able to draw on guys like Cobb, Gresham, etc. for shows and tours, but I agree that it's something that's likely in the works and would at least create some big changes in the business arrangement. EDIT: Meltzer says on WOR (according to 411) that DBS wants to go to Impact, and that likely wouldn't happen so long as he was primarily working NJPW in Japan. Don't know if I totally buy that: Ishimori worked Impact for a couple of tapings even after leaving NOAH and joining Bullet Club and even came into Impact in full Bone Soldier regalia, though I'm sure part of that was NJPW telling him to finish up his various commitments, and while Meltzer thinks NJPW still feels that Impact can't be trusted due to how badly Okada's excursion was botched (not to mention Naito and Yujiro's trip over, among other issues) I think they have to be aware that it's new management there now and all the people responsible for "Okato" are gone. It could be a matter of "we're partners with ROH, we'd rather you not work for someone competing with them", but hell, MLW currently has more of a TV presence in the US than Impact does and DBS works there, too, so I dunno. Ultimately, Smith wasn't signed full time to NJPW, so I'm not sure how much of a say they'd have in most of these things, in general.

If DBS works Impact, good for him, I guess, and it would mean him getting to spend more time in Canada, certainly, but I dunno how doable it is with the MLW contract. Then again, maybe the two companies can hammer something out.

Funny thing is, if Okada didn't have that spell in the old TNA, he probably would not have the Rainmaker gimmick, he says himself he got the idea from TNA where Scott D'Amore and Erc Boschoff told him to "make it rain"

Considering the timeframe of his excursion comeback, YH would get a Naruto gimmick. Which would be a lot more annoying. Even Naruto can't believe in YOSHI-HASHI. Naruto: I believed in Sasuke after he attacked the Kage summit and stabbed Sakura. I believer in Orochimaru after he is responsible for the death of the 3rd Hokage. Hell, I even believed in Obito and he’s responsible for my parents being dead but you Yoshi-Hashi, you’re just like Neji right now, six feet under
