We move even deeper into 2007 with the Fifth of Nine lists. Vote for your favorite movie from this part of this year, and, as always, explain your choice (if you like), as well as mention any other movies you might have seen on this list, below.

We will also accept Write in Votes (although, please mention it as such) for movies not included on the list I'm getting the choices off of. However, I will not remove any from the list (I can't by that point), so, if you want to make your case why a certain movie isn't a horror film, make it. Hell, you might end up swaying a few voters from going in that direction, but I can't/won't remove it from the list or DQ it.

1408 is a good ghost film, but Planet Terror is more fun and cool to watch.

PLANET TERROR is bloomin' madness and at that time rose mcgowen was supercool and sexy as hell, i even had the screenshot of her and marley shelton on the bike as my desktop
DEFINITELY the better of the two grindhouse releases, probably because they put three quarters of the budget into PT and left DEATH PROOF with bugger all!

and even with the supremely trolling "scene missing" skit, which i thoroughly enjoyed laughing at, i wanted it to be even longer, the exact opposite of that i wanted DEATH PROOF to be .....

A little less than an hour and a half left, and Planet Terror is currently winning. However, 1408 isn't too far behind.

We have another tie, as both Planet Terror and 1408 will go on to the next round. I've actually seen both and voted for the first. Going to see Grindhouse as a unit with a packed (and hip) crowd was one of my most fun movie going experiences, as the entire audience ate up every thing Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino (and the other filmmakers that made mock trailers) served up to them that night. I actually prefer Death Proof slightly over Planet Terror, but the second is most definitely a lot of fun, and who doesn't love a good gory, over the top zombie movie. This has a hell of a cast as well, including stars wouldn't expect in a movie like this, like Bruce Willis, for example. He was still seen as a B+ Lister at least in 2007. Anyways, this was a lot of fun.


Now 1408, on the other hand. Y'know, I think I would like this movie a lot more if I hadn't read the story, but since I did, and REALLY liked it....I just didn't dig the adaptation. It's well made and cast, but there's something lacking compared to the story. Perhaps it was the entirely unnecessary sentimental story added in with the main character and his daughter. Like last poll's Invasion, it deflated any kind of horror built up like a slowly popped balloon, leaving me thoroughly unimpressed at the end. Sorry....I know many love it.


Hostel II was decent, but it definitely lacked the impact (or a lot of the cleverness) of the first movie. Perhaps it's because one knows what's coming to the poor group of young women who are making the same mistake the group of Dude Bros did in the first movie, and while there are a few decent twists to try and liven things up, it's basically like rehearing a joke when one has already heard the punchline. It's decent, though, and there are a few decent twists (including the end) that try to make it more than a retold joke, but it's a retold joke.


Finally, The Orphanage was decent, but not as good as many tried to make it out as being at the time. It does have some decently creepy atmosphere, but on the whole it was kind of "Been There, Done That" with a lot of the stuff in this movie. It's, once again, decent though.


Well, that wasn't too bad. Time for List #6.
