Spending six months editing a trailer and only four editing the actual film is the perfect Hollywood representation of "style over substance". From what I've seen of the Broadway show, they missed the style and the substance. The Macavity character live looks elegant and intimidating. In the movie, it's just Idris Elba with no clothes and awful looking CGI fuzz plastered on him. God bless the dude, great actor and he tries real hard, but...ugh.

I suppose, to be fair to the movie, no one understands whatever the substance of the play is anyhow.

The "heaviside layer" and the balloon the Jellicle Ball revolves around is an allegory for something, some say the cats are dying and going to heaven. So it's a suicide cult? I dunno, it's trippy.

Old Deuteronomy, up there with the greatest cult leaders in history.

I really want to see the Butthole Cut Same. What's funny is from the description all the buttholes were just a quirk of the rendering process, rather than something snuck in by one of the VFX team. This fiasco of a movie was so bad the goddamn computers tried to sabotage it.

Honestly, from the... half I managed to sit through of Cats, all the gyrating and grinding kind of made me think they were trying to find the buttholes.
And hey, if it comes down to that or weird cat foreplay spooning, I'm going with the former.
