... on the opening day they told people this...
Instead of sending out the fix one.
Secondly, that doesn't seem like it would solve like any of the critic's issues.

I have listened to movie critics talk about shit like this happening and that people should be worried that if movie goers do not put their foot down that things like this will give studios the sign that this is acceptable and make it the norm.
Like SpiderMan Far from home coming out only then get put back into theaters with I think it was 7 whole minutes of new footage and expect people to pay full theater price again just for 7min of new footage.
And now Cats is being "updated" so come back and pay full price again because it may look better...or worse who knows GIVE US YOUR MONEY!

At this point, they may as well stick to their guns and market it as a horror film.

The Jason Derulo cat does not sing “Jason Derulo” when we’re introduced to him.

I guess it sucking or not is a moot point, this is like Mamma Mia vs. TDK....here to get curb stomped by Star Wars (no matter how polarizing it is, ROS is going to make dumpsters of money) I remember me and my buddies going to the midnight screening of TDK. It was showing on seven sold out theaters, and the place was packed. While waiting in line, I loudly said, "I can't believe all these people are here to see Mama Mia." My buddies laughed while I got some dirty and confused looks. lol.

Might have been more for one overseas at least, but it did fit into that niche of being a light, fun movie as a contrast to The Dark Knight. In other news, Mark Kemode chips in with his review: "It's less uncanny valley and more awkward corner." Is a fun line.

While the... everything about it isn't helping, I think they also just waited waaaaaay too long to do it. I remember Cats being something everyone talked about and knew about in, like, the late 90s, but nowadays it's completely overshadowed in the whole musical department by several other things. I know it's obviously aimed at an older crowd who've probably heard of it but there's no guarantee all of those people would actually care about it.

Ugh, imagine the movie with awful late-90's CGI for the fur...

This isn't a Marvel/Disney re-release to try to milk out a few million more. Cats was literally unfinished. The faces are said to move slightly slower than the bodies. There's apparently a straight-up human being in a crowd scene that they forgot to CGI. This isn't a marketing gimmick, it's an attempt to have a less shitty product out.

What makes this particularly baffling is that there's nothing about this film which demands a holiday release; delay it till late winter or early spring and the box office difference would be negligible. Everything about this project reeks of a stubborn vision to get it exactly as they want it, no matter how badly its going to bomb.

I didn't mind her in "Isn't It Romantic?" but then again, I kind of enjoyed that movie. She's better as a supporting character. Worked in Bridemaids and the lesser-known Struck By Lightning. But she is another who's been buried by McCarthy-casting-and-writing. So I chalk it up partially to US directors/etc. still not knowing how to include plus-size women. I liked her in the Pitch Perfect movies and Isn't it Romantic. Everything else she's done seems lazy and low-brow

So I just saw it.
It was really bad, but it had less to do with the performances and the effects (which weren't great) than the source material. The "story" is just...it's literally nonsense. It's just...cats, one of which goes to Heaven.
Why did people go to see this show for so many years? It's genuinely the worst musical I've ever seen.

... Why did they not just delay it? 1) Because Star Wars. Putting an alternative out on the same day could lead to attracting people who aren't interested in space wizards and want to sees movie. 2) Because Christmas. Lots of people like to go out for Christmas, why not have a brand new movie to see?

Probably for the live dancing and choreography, things the film does a poor job of replicating.
