So I just saw it. It was really bad, but it had less to do with the performances and the effects (which weren't great) than the source material. The "story" is just...it's literally nonsense. It's just...cats, one of which goes to Heaven. Why did people go to see this show for so many years? It's genuinely the worst musical I've ever seen. Nothing about the story makes any sense to me and the names Rumpleteazer and Rum Tum Tugger are flat-out dirty euphemisms masquerading as cat names. They have to be.

I have listened to movie critics talk about shit like this happening and that people should be worried that if movie goers do not put their foot down that things like this will give studios the sign that this is acceptable and make it the norm. Like SpiderMan Far from home coming out only then get put back into theaters with I think it was 7 whole minutes of new footage and expect people to pay full theater price again just for 7min of new footage. And now Cats is being "updated" so come back and pay full price again because it may look better...or worse who knows GIVE US YOUR MONEY! This isn't a Marvel/Disney re-release to try to milk out a few million more. Cats was literally unfinished. The faces are said to move slightly slower than the bodies. There's apparently a straight-up human being in a crowd scene that they forgot to CGI. This isn't a marketing gimmick, it's an attempt to have a less shitty product out. That sounds glorious. Is that version still out or is it being completely scrubbed off and replaced?

She's better as a supporting character. Worked in Bridemaids and the lesser-known Struck By Lightning. But she is another who's been buried by McCarthy-casting-and-writing. So I chalk it up partially to US directors/etc. still not knowing how to include plus-size women. I liked her in the Pitch Perfect movies and Isn't it Romantic. Everything else she's done seems lazy and low-brow Yeah like I said, it's cause it seems like Hollywood still doesn't know how to write for PSW.

... Why did they not just delay it? 1) Because Star Wars. Putting an alternative out on the same day could lead to attracting people who aren't interested in space wizards and want to sees movie. 2) Because Christmas. Lots of people like to go out for Christmas, why not have a brand new movie to see? Pretty much this. Christmas has become a big day for the movies, especially when it's in the middle of the week and not just a bump for the usual weekend box office numbers. There's also always one distinctly non-blockbuster type movie that tries to peel off all the people who have no interest in seeing the blockbuster, but go to the movies with family, friends, or significant others who really want to see the big blockbuster of the times.
Though out of all the things the movie industry could copy from the video game industry (after years of the reverse), rushing out unfinished products for the holidays and putting out day one patches isn't what I'd thought they'd do.

It's like Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern suit, Henry Caville's deleted moustache and original design movie Sonic got together and had many, many babies.

There's apparently at least one shot Judi Dench just has her human hand with jewellery and no CG. How did this film happen?

As far as a random collection of references to TS Elliot's cat poems, Logan's Run did that a lot better, and in much more efficient time to boot:

It's kinda some kinda false equivalency when they make you think the choice is between 2 movies you don't wanna see, instead of "just go somewhere that isn't the cinema"

Been quite a while since I've seen a movie that looks bad in literally every form of media presented. And I kinda want to see it.

The AAA video game analogy sort of stands up as some people see Universal-Comcast as the Activision/EA of the film and TV industry.

I have the feeling this is going to be one of those movies that despite critics hating it is going to get a shit-ton of Oscar nominations for some reason.

a reminder that the Oscars are pretty much entirely political... Also Endgame likely has a lock on that.
